Schoolâs out... forever but you can still keep learning
Hey there,
As summer winds to a close, we all start thinking about Back To School season, right?
Itâs a natural progression through the year even if you donât have kids of your own because for many years of your life, every September meant new pencil cases and lunch boxes and a shiny red apple for your new teacher.
That kind of stuff sticks with you.
Of course, this year Back to School is different for everyone.
Some kids will go back to the classroom, but millions of others wonât. In fact, many people have no idea when theyâll see the inside of a classroom again!
That doesnât mean learning can stop, though.
Even in (I canât believe Iâm about to use this phrase) unprecedented times like these, learning must continue.
The one cool thing about this is that many of us have an opportunity we didnât have before - and thatâs having more of a say in our kidsâ education.
If youâre finding yourself in the position of newly minted homeschool teacher, or a parent whoâs managing distance learning, you might find that they have additional pockets of time in their schedule now.
And you might call me crazy for this, but I think a great way to spend that time is with a crash course in personal finance.
No matter how old your kids are - from preschool to college - thereâs always something they can learn about personal finance.
Think about it. When you moved out on your own for the first time and had to pay bills, balance your checkbook, and file taxes, didnât you say, "Why didnât they teach me this stuff in school?!"
There are tons of adults out there who instantly recall the formula to find the area of a parallelogram or what mitochondria does (itâs the powerhouse of the cell, of course!) but have no idea how to manage their money.
No wonder as many as 78% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck! Who wants that kind of future for their children? Not me!
Hereâs how you prevent that.
Instead of leaving personal finance education up to your kidsâ school, why not take advantage of the extra time you might have in your schedule these days?
You donât even have to make it up on the fly.
There are tons of great books and programs available that will help you fill in the knowledge gaps that can mean the difference between struggling to get by and long-lasting wealth for your kiddos.
Here are just a few resources every parent can use to teach their children to be better stewards of their money.
If you want to provide a general overview of concepts, The Richest Man In Babylon by George S. Clason is an absolute classic. Clason teaches financial principles with interesting fables - even young elementary-aged kids will like having this one read to them.
If youâre looking for a short read on how your kids can prepare to be smart spenders, Rich Kid, Smart Kid by Robert Kiyosaki is a great choice. It covers a lot of the basics of how to create cash flow and build assets. (If your kids are older, you can skip ahead and give them their own copy of Kiyosakiâs Rich Dad, Poor Dad instead.)
Oh, and if you end up liking Kiyosakiâs stuff, thereâs even a board game called Cashflow 101 that you can play as a family to reinforce the concepts they picked up from the books.
Now, maybe everything Iâve just mentioned has stressed you out. If you donât feel secure enough in the concepts to teach them yourself, thatâs ok.
If itâs YOU who could use a little extra boost in your finance game, I suggest you pick up a copy of Money: Master The Game by Tony Robbins. Even if youâre not a Tony fan, this book has tons of inspirational AND actionable advice for personal finance, understanding investment strategies, and more.
And if youâre comfortable with the basics, and youâre ready for more, Iâm here for that because thereâs so much I can teach you about trading.
In fact, you can get started right now. [In this video I made for you]( Iâll teach you the patterns I look for when I make my trades AND Iâll tell you how you can get access to my trading masterclass. It wonât be up for too much longer, so check it out while you still can.
No matter what this new school year brings you, I wish you good luck and happy trading! And remember - for that last part, Iâm always here to help!
