Can you chip in on Giving Tuesday? Hi- Time is running out—there are just a few hours left to make your [Giving Tuesday donation]( and support the trusted, local reporting you rely on. Earlier today, you heard from editors Stephanie Clary and Christopher Werth about the importance and impact of reader support. But it doesn’t appear that we’ve received your donation yet. [It’s not too late to give.]( Can you help us reach our goal and donate before midnight? Plus, when you give $7/month or more, you’ll receive a limited-edition Gothamist T-shirt - a token of our deep appreciation. [Don’t miss out!]( Thanks, -Team Gothamist Begin forwarded message: From: Christopher Werth - Gothamist Date: December 3, 2024 To: {EMAIL} Subject: Driving Change in NYC: Your Support Makes It Possible Hello Gothamist Reader! Christopher Werth here. I’m the investigative and narrative editor at Gothamist and WNYC. I help shape some of the bigger stories that our newsroom undertakes, including deep-dive investigations and long-form work for our local news podcast, NYC Now. I’m writing today, on [Giving Tuesday,]( to ask for your support. [DONATE NOW]( For nearly a decade, I’ve worked with my colleagues at this storied New York institution to bring you reporting that holds powerful people and city agencies to account. This work has led to notable changes in policy and our day-to-day lives. Here are just a few highlights: - Our investigation into hundreds of sexual assault allegations at the troubled Rikers Island jail complex led the Bronx District Attorney to commit to investigating the claims, and we continue to press city officials for a response. At least three correction officers accused of sexual abuse were removed from the city’s women’s jail after our reporting. - State lawmakers passed anti-discrimination laws after our reporting revealed insurance companies routinely refused to cover buildings that rent to residents who use housing vouchers to pay rent. - Our investigation into lead paint in city schools prompted new laws placing stricter requirements on the education department to ensure classrooms are safe for young children. We have a big year ahead of us. Not only will our journalists closely track how the incoming Trump administration’s policies affect New Yorkers in 2025, but we also have a mayoral election when the sitting mayor faces federal charges. [That’s why I’m asking you for your support.]( WNYC and Gothamist are run by a nonprofit newsroom that relies on donations from listeners and readers. Have you ever noticed that you don’t see subscription requirements or pesky paywalls when you want to read or listen to our coverage? That’s thanks to the generosity of others. By supporting us on Giving Tuesday, you’ll be joining a community of like-minded individuals who believe in the power of local news. Your gift, no matter the amount, will allow us to continue this vital work. [Can you give today?]( [Christopher Werth] Thank you, Christopher Werth P.S. Here’s an extra reason to give today: Donate $7 a month or more, and we’ll include this [limited edition T-shirt]( with our thanks. (You even get to choose the color combination you like best.)
