It’s Friday morning in New York City where the rental market in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn [looks a lot different than it did a year ago.]( The city implemented new policies for short-term rentals last year which led to an 85% drop in Airbnb listings citywide. Those sweeping changes were especially evident in Bed-Stuy which used to be an Airbnb hotbed, with one 24-block section of the neighborhood once boasting the highest concentration of Airbnb listings in the city. The days of renting out a picturesque brownstone on one of those tree-lined Brooklyn blocks for a week while visiting the city may be over, but some apartments still remain on Airbnb, now with 30-day minimums to comply with city laws. Here’s what else is happening: - Mayor Eric Adams’ team is busy cooperating with a federal investigation, so they asked the Campaign Finance Board [for more time]( to respond to questions about their apparent messy recordkeeping. - NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban [announced his resignation]( yesterday amid a federal investigation revealed last week, which has [raised fresh questions]( about whether the mayor is able to manage a growing crisis of confidence in his administration. - Adams appointed Thomas Donlon to replace NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, a former FBI agent who investigated the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and later led the New York state Office of Homeland Security.
