This mattress provides extreme comfort at a reasonable price. Sarah Kobos YOUR GUIDE Justin Redman I’ve tested a lot of [cheap mattresses](. And even though I slept well enough on several under-$400 models, I knew few would retain their quality after a couple of years. On the other end of the price spectrum, I slept wonderfully on the luxurious Tempur-Pedic [Tempur-Adapt](. But a $2,100 queen costs more than the monthly rent for my New York City apartment. Ultimately, most people want something in between—a mattress that’s supportive, pressure-relieving, and durable, but that doesn’t empty their bank account. That’s where [Costco’s Novaform ComfortGrande]( comes in. Like many Costco-exclusive items, the Novaform ComfortGrande gives you a lot for your money. Many of the cheaper mattresses we’ve tested—and even some of the more expensive ones—aren’t nearly as thick. At 14 inches, the Novaform is one of the loftiest mattresses we recommend, so it looks and feels more substantial than its price would suggest. The widespread appeal of the Novaform ComfortGrande is that it’s built to work for almost anyone. It might not be your absolute favorite, but it’s the only budget-friendly mattress we’ve tested that we think could reasonably last the 10 or more years mattresses are expected to. “The Novaform looks and feels more substantial than its price would suggest.” The Novaform ComfortGrande has a cuddly feel, without a tight memory-foam hug or exaggerated sink. I tend to prefer slightly softer mattresses, but I still slept perfectly well on my side on this mattress. It has a medium-firm feel that should work for all sleep positions. We usually judge the durability of an all-foam mattress by analyzing its foam densities, and the Novaform ComfortGrande’s density of 3 to 3½ pounds per cubic foot puts it on a par with mattresses priced at $1,000. Even mattresses that cost hundreds more than the Novaform—Studio by Leesa, Puffy Mattress, and Nectar Original—use less-dense foams. There’s certainly some nuance to durability that isn’t captured by foam density, but this measurement still underscores the Novaform’s great value. The mattress also comes with Costco’s fantastic [return policy]( if you don’t like it, you can essentially return it at any time, for any reason. And the company will pick up the mattress free of charge. Even in the mattress world, where a 100-night free trial is the norm, Costco’s policy is difficult to beat. [Learn More ›]( How it compares We’ve tested nearly 100 mattresses, and the Novaform ComfortGrande has been the clear winner in the under-$1,000 category: - This mattress has been a Wirecutter pick since 2019. - It has a substantial feel not often seen in mattresses at this price point. - As a Costco product, it has a return policy that is extremely customer-friendly. - Compared with other budget mattresses we’ve tested, the Novaform ComfortGrande is made with materials that are equal to or exceed those of mattresses running $1,000 or more. Read more in our guide to the [best memory-foam mattresses](. When to buy The best time to buy a mattress is usually around Presidents’ Day, Black Friday, Prime Day, and in early spring. Although Costco doesn’t run sales as consistently as other retailers, we saw big sales on the Novaform ComfortGrande during Presidents’ Day in 2020, as well as in April 2021. for a queen mattress Make it last Mattresses will eventually degrade in quality, and there’s little you can do to stop that. But because the Novaform ComfortGrande is made of memory foam—which is especially prone to indentations—there are a few things you can do to extend its life. Invest in a [mattress protector](. Water and other fluids can alter the feel and integrity of a mattress over time, so a mattress protector will prevent moisture from reaching the foam. You can also extend the life of your mattress [by cleaning it](. And you should rotate the mattress regularly and vary the spots you sleep on.
