The Logitech K380 can be used to type on almost any deviceâeven your TV. Michael Murtaugh YOUR GUIDE Kimber Streams I first recommended the [Logitech K380]( back when it was originally released, in 2015. Since then Iâve seen every color of this keyboardâwith its friendly, circle-shaped keysâadorn the workspaces of my friends and colleagues: sensible gray, stately blue, eye-popping orange, bold raspberry, and ([more recently]( chic white and millennial pink. But the K380 is more than just a cute accessoryâitâs an exceptional keyboard thatâs comfortable to type on, versatile, and comparatively inexpensive. At the time of its release, the [Logitech K380]( was revolutionary. This keyboard could connect to up to three devices at once via Bluetooth and switch between them with the press of a button. With this feature, you can use the K380 to start typing an email on your computer, move to your smartphone to send a quick text message, switch to your Apple TV to change your background entertainment, and then swap back to your computer to finish up that email. Previously, this functionality had been available only in its much more expensive predecessors, the Logitech K810 and K811. This âeasy-switchâ functionality has set the standard for wireless keyboards in the years since. Nowadays, all of our Bluetooth picksâand even some mechanical keyboardsâoffer this feature. âIâve watched my partner crank away at writing projects on a plane with just the K380 and his phone.â Because the K380 is so compact and lightâbut still durable and sturdy enough to use in your lapâitâs easy to slip in a bag and take with you. Iâve avoided countless neck-strain headaches by pairing my K380 with a [portable laptop stand]( and a [wireless mouse](. This setup makes my workspace more ergonomic when Iâm at a coffee shop or a friendâs house, away from my fancy [standing desk]( and [monitor](. And Iâve watched my partner crank away at writing projects on a plane with just the K380 and his phone. No other keyboard weâve tested offers this combination of portability and versatility. For about a year and a half, I used the K380 nearly every day for work (when I wasnât testing other keyboards and laptops), typing hundreds of thousands of words on it and traveling with it a few times per month. Aside from shiny spots worn into the most-used keys (normal wear and tear Iâd expect from any keyboard), the K380 works just as well now as on the day it arrived. And the battery hasnât run out in that time. Another Wirecutter editorâs K380 still works great, despite periodic abuse from young kids who grab it off her desk and use it to âwork.â She told me, âIâve had to replace the battery so rarely, I couldnât even tell you when I last did it.â When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. [Learn More âº]( How it compares Weâve tested more than 50 wireless and Bluetooth keyboards over the years and found that the K380 is by far the best one for most peopleâs needs. No other keyboard provides the K380âs exceptional combination of typing comfort, portability, versatility, and longevity for such a low price. - The K380 has been our pick since it was first introduced, in late 2015. - It has a compact layout similar to that of many laptop keyboards. All of the most important keys are there, but this keyboard is smaller and easier to carry around. - Logitech claims the K380âs two AAA batteries will last about two years with heavy use (eight hours of use a day, five days a week), and our experiences are in line with this estimate. - The K380 costs less than half as much as our previous pick with similar features. Itâs an exceptional value. Read more in [our guide to the best wireless keyboards](. Make it last Most keyboard care is common sense. Donât eat over your keyboard because crumbs will get inside it, and be careful with drinks because spills can ruin it. We also recommend that you use a case, bag, or dedicated pocket when traveling with your keyboard, so that you donât get gunk beneath the keycaps or pop them off during transit. If you do get crumbs, dust, skin particles, hair, or other gross things in your keyboard, turn it upside down, shake it out, and use some compressed air to remove more particles. Then use a dampâbut not sopping wet!âmicrofiber cloth to wipe skin oils off the keys. You may or may not be able to save the keyboard if you spill a drink on it. First, immediately turn off the keyboard. Then, to get as much liquid out as possible, flip it upside down, shake it off, and dab it dry with a towel. If you have the tools to [take it apart]( do so. If you spilled a sticky substance like soda or sweetened coffee, gently clean the parts with rubbing alcohol, and spread them out to air-dry. Once the keyboard is dry, reassemble it, cross your fingers, and hope it turns back on. When to buy We havenât posted a deal on this keyboard since 2019, so itâs worth picking up if you see the price drop below $30. The numbers $30 Average street price
