{NAME}, In one of his final interviews as country director for the United Nations World Food Program

[View in browser]( [World Food Program USA.]( [DONATE]( {NAME}, In one of his final interviews as country director for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Gaza, Matthew Hollingworth shared firsthand the reality people in Gaza are experiencing due to the conflict. Here are my top five takeaways: - Famine is the most frightening word to Matthew who has worked in the humanitarian sector for 25 years, as it signifies thousands of people are already dying of hunger-related causes. Famine means failure. - In northern Gaza, almost no buildings still stand, roads have been destroyed, sewage is in the streets, there is little clean water and healthcare is almost impossible to find. People are dependent on humanitarian aid. - Matthew recalls his work in Ukraine, Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. In all those operations, people could run away, cross borders, and leave. They could find safety, whether for the long term or short term, and then return to their place of origin. That's not happening in Gaza. People in Gaza are stuck inside a little strip of land. - Matthew saw people rush towards WFP trucks in northern Gaza. Despite being fired upon, they continued to come for food for their friends and family. Matthew has never seen such courage and desperation. - Negotiating the entry of assistance is hard work and time-consuming. For every success, there are three failures. WFP needs consistent delivery of aid at scale to prevent famine. [LEARN MORE]( Our teams, who are living through this crisis while trying to help others, are an inspiration. They're turning the generosity of our supporters into hot meals, emergency food boxes and nutrition support for people in Gaza where famine looms. Every day, our teams work around the clock to navigate immense challenges and provide emergency food assistance to people in Gaza. We've worked here for decades and will continue to serve Gazans in their time of need. With my deepest gratitude, [Barron Segar.] Barron Segar President and CEO World Food Program USA Our Future Begins With Food. With the support of people like you, we can do good better.
