The WBUR Weekender
August 22, 2020
Weekend Weather: [Mostly sunny]( on Saturday, partly sunny on Sunday. Both days may have some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the high 80s.
Good morning,
Multi-platform editor Meghan Kelly here, subbing in for Meagan McGinnes while she's on a well-deserved break.
I am usually what one might call a "voracious reader," but since this year has been a little busy, I haven't had much time to read anything at all besides Twitter (I do not recommend this).
I have had a little more success with audiobooks, since I can put one on and do something else at the same time, like dishes or walking the dog. The most recent one I listened to was "Rodham," by Curtis Sittenfeld. The novel explores what might have been if Hillary Clinton had never married Bill. I enjoyed it. I am a big fan of Sittenfeld and recommend her other works, like "Prep" and "American Wife."
I was very glad that Meagan and I decided to ask our followers for book recommendations, because I need some ideas. I'm pleased to report we got a [great list]( back. Three people separately recommended "The Vanishing Half" by Brit Bennett, which is enough to convince me that it should be my next read.
This weekend, I'm going to put my phone away and lose myself in a book (or, lose myself as much as a person with kids and a dog can). I hope you can, too.
— Meghan Kelly
