This is a 5 alarm fire for democracy (no, I don’t mean the debate)

{NAME},  The Supreme Court just issued a new decision that overturns a 40-year legal precedent that is the backbone of the functioning of the federal government.  It’s also a MASSIVE power grab that strips the Executive branch of its ability to do its job and puts the decision making power entirely in the hands of the hyper-partisan, unelected court.  Here’s what happened:  In a 1984 case called Chevron USA, Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, the Supreme Court ruled that subject matter experts at federal agencies are responsible for deciding how to implement any law passed by Congress.  For example, if Congress passes a law tasking the EPA with reducing cancer-causing chemicals in our water supply, the scientists and doctors at the EPA have to determine how much of that chemical actually puts the public at risk for cancer.  This ruling became known as the Chevron doctrine, and it has protected Americans from far-right lawmakers, lobbyists, and rogue agency officials for decades.  Until today.  In today’s decision, Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, SCOTUS has thoroughly revoked the Chevron doctrine. That means agencies can now only enforce laws as written by partisan actors in Congress – laws then interpreted by a far-right federal judiciary.  As long as Republicans maintain control of Congress, the most extreme right-wing factions of our government will control the safety of our air, water, food, and drugs.  Our only remedy is to take back control of Congress, hold the White House, and pass new legislation that specifies this responsibility belongs to the relevant federal agencies.  [We have four seats right here in Arkansas ready to flip.
