[View in browser]( Dear {NAME}, In recent weeks we have seen fires, hurricanes and earthquakes devastate communities around the world. With over 1,000 United Ways across the globe, we are well positioned to identify community needs and mobilize resources to support those who need it most. United Way is on the ground before a disaster hits and is there long after it has fallen out of the news cycle. United Way Worldwide, through our [Disaster Relief Fund]( is committed to strengthening local relief efforts by supporting local United Ways and 2-1-1 call centers with staff and resources, as well as leveraging national and global partnerships to help United Ways navigate times of crisis. 2-1-1 call centers connect people in need with resources, including food, water, clothing, and long-term housing. We are also investing in efforts that help prepare communities for future crises – sharing learnings from previous disaster responses and addressing systemic challenges to disaster preparedness, through efforts like climate mitigation and multi-hazard disaster planning. Here are just a few examples of how United Way has helped with disaster preparedness and recovery: - When unprecedented wildfires ripped through Lahaina, Hawaii, United Ways from across the network rallied to support Maui United Way's response. Working together, we have raised millions of dollars through the Maui disaster fund, focusing on meeting the critical needs of the Maui community. And United Way Worldwide deployed specialist staff to provide vital on-the-ground capacity. We will continue to stand with Maui on their long road to recovery. Learn more about our efforts [here](. - United Way’s coordinated response to the war in Ukraine shows our ability to mobilize our global network in support of communities during a crisis. Our United for Ukraine Fund, which supported refugees affected by the war, provided basic needs assistance to more than 131,349 people including food, shelter, clothing and health services. Ukrainian refugee resettlement programs were also created, providing workforce support, childcare, food and more, to over 7,000 people displaced by the conflict. Learn more about our efforts [here](. - Mexico has a long history of dealing with disasters, especially earthquakes. This prompted United Way Mexico to ask, how can we prepare for emergency events? A preventive strategy called "Comunidades Resilientes" (Resilient Communities) was launched in a school in Colonia del Valle and aims to foster a culture of emergency prevention and resilience through 15 training sessions over 4 months. So far 200 beneficiaries have received safety tools, enabling the formation of community civil protection brigades. Learn more about how United Way is significantly reducing community risks during emergencies [here](. We stand with communities across our global network as they cope with natural disasters, man-made emergencies, and everyday crises. Your support to our [Disaster Relief Fund]( ensures United Way Worldwide can deploy resources to prepare more communities for the next disaster, and to support those that have already been impacted to rebuild, recover and thrive.
