A hunger crisis like no other [UNHCR The UN refugee Agency]( [Donate now]( [Hardest Hit by Hunger]( {NAME}, Last week you heard from my colleague Faith about the dire situation across the Horn of Africa, in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. I myself have witnessed this crisis unfold in Kenya, where in recent years more than 110,000 people from drought affected areas in Somalia have fled across the border, seeking safety and food. As more people flee into Kenya, families living in the areas where they have fled to are struggling to make ends meet. The severe drought in Somalia is also affecting us here in Kenya and communities who depend on livestock have watched in horror as the grass has dried up and their cattle have died. "The food situation in Somalia is bad. I am not sure if the people we left behind will survive. I am afraid." [Hamila family]( After her husband passed away last year, Halima was forced to flee her home in Somalia with her three children. She was afraid they would die of hunger if they stayed. Every day, hundreds of children are arriving into Kenya already malnourished. This makes them particularly vulnerable to disease and infection. After losing their homes, families are terrified of losing their children as well. They resort to selling everything they own to buy whatever food is available. But soon they run out of things to sell. As my colleague Faith explained, as resources become scarcer across the region, prices for the food that is left are soaring and families like Halima’s who have already lost everything do not have the ability to buy the food they need to survive. [Help the Hardest Hit by Hunger today]( UNHCR is supporting thousands of families like Halima’s in Kenya with vital cash assistance. Cash assistance is a swift and effective way for families in desperate need to urgently afford the food and essentials they need to survive. But we can’t do this without you. When you support UNHCR, you are directly helping refugees like Halima and her family access lifesaving food. $75 helps a family buy lifesaving nutritious fruits and vegetables for three months [Donate now]( Refugees and displaced families desperately need your help. [Donating to UNHCR will help the Hardest Hit by Hunger through vital cash assistance in Kenya.]( Your donation goes straight to where it’s needed most.
