NBC has a new mystery-box show that wants to blow your mind, a subset of the population finally gets some representation on TV, and the second season of this Curb Your Enthusiasm homage is finally on Netflix. Hello! I’m sure you heard the news: Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki is already looking ahead to his next gig after a 15-year run on the super popular CW series. [He’s eyeing the lead in a Walker, Texas Ranger reboot]( taking over the role from Chuck Norris. But did you know that Supernatural already predicted this would happen? [One Twitter user dug up proof]( One of the Winchester brothers’ aliases for Padalecki’s Sam was… Walker, Texas Ranger. Now it only makes sense that [Jensen Ackles be the next Batman, right]( Here are tonight’s TV picks: [Your Watch This Now! newsletter is created by Senior Recommendations and Reviews Editor Tim Surette and more show-obsessed editors at TV Guide!]( WATCH THIS NOW! [This Is Us]( [Why is This Is Us adding so many new characters?]( Season 4 premieres Tuesday at 9/8c on NBC Why take a shower when you can bathe in your own tears while watching This Is Us? NBC’s family drama is at its apparent midpoint (the show has been renewed for three more seasons, with the thought being that Season 6 will be its last), which means it’s time to turn everything on its head with a big surprise! This season adds several new cast members, including Omar Epps, Jennifer Morrison, and, for some reason, M. Night Shyamalan, while Randall moves his family to Philadelphia, Kate and Toby experience the wonderful frustrations of parenthood, and Kevin starts life over again after breaking up with Zoe. There are hints online that This Is Us is getting a big change in its format, which is almost certainly due to its many new characters. THE REAL ISH [Mixed-ish]( [mixed-ish finally gives representation to a growing part of society]( Series premiere Tuesday at 9/8c on ABC Even though people of mixed-race backgrounds have the advantage of being the most beautiful people on Earth (apologies, we can’t help it), we have a very clear [disadvantage when it comes to familiar points-of-view on television](. Thankfully we’re getting Kenya Barris’ new series mixed-ish, a spin-off of black-ish that focuses on Tracee Ellis Ross’ character Rainbow Johnson, the daughter of a white father and black mother. It’s set in the 1980s when Rainbow was just a kid and, like its cousins black-ish and grown-ish, includes sharp political and societal observations alongside its humor. Plus, if you’re dying for that [Saved By the Bell sequel show on Disney+]( this will tide you over as a hippified Mark-Paul Gosselaar stars as Rainbow’s dad. GIVE US ANSWERS [Emergence]( [Emergence may or may not be about aliens]( Series premieres Tuesday at 10/9c on ABC Each new fall TV season, one of the networks, usually NBC or ABC, unleashes a sci-fi mystery show where [announcer voice] answers only lead to more questions, and I admit I’m a total sucker for these shows even though they typically fizzle out after a few episodes, and only on rare occasions make it to a second season. This year’s entry into that field is ABC’s Emergence, starring Allison Tolman as a cop who cares for a mysterious young girl found at the site of a plane crash. Is the girl an alien? Is she a clone that escaped from a top-secret facility? Is she – the biggest twist – just a normal girl? Unfortunately, you’ll have to watch a lot more than the guarded pilot to find out, as the [opening hour doesn’t reveal a whole lot]( except confirm that Tolman is a national treasure. But that’s the idea with these shows, right? String you along, keep you interested with bread crumbs, and then deliver a midseason twist that makes you say, “Oh, OK.” I’ll keep tabs on this one to see if its mystery really develops into something mind-blowing, but I’ve been burned by giving these shows my attention many times before. Fool me once, shame on you, network executives, fool me 23 times, shame on… actually, shame on network executives still. YOU'RE WELCOME [I'm Sorry]( [I’m Sorry is a raunchy mom-com]( Season 2 now on Netflix For all you O.G. Watch This Now!™ newsletter subscribers here since day one, you might realize that I’ve already recommended this show. So why is it here again? Because Season 2 is now on Netflix, and I know that for some of you, TV doesn’t exist until it’s on the ‘Flix. The comedy, which originally airs on truTV, stars Andrea Savage as a wife and mother who pretty much deals with other people’s crap. It’s in the vein of Curb Your Enthusiasm but with a hot mom at the center instead of a cranky old Jewish man, and in Season 2, Andrea’s daughter enters kindergarten, and having just put a daughter into kindergarten myself, it is very on point. Shout out to a friend who I recommended I’m Sorry to earlier this month and loved it so much, she went out and bought Season 2 instead of waiting a few weeks for it to appear on Netflix. Sucker.
