[So to kick off Pride month, I’m calling on 5,000 Democrats to call on Congress to pass the Equality Act. It now needs to be introduced in the House again and gain 60 votes in the Senate in order to be sent to President Biden’s desk. As the first LGBTQ Afro-Latino member of Congress, I feel the weight of history on my shoulders. On behalf of my community, I am here to claim what discrimination denies – equal protection under the law. As we watch dozens of states pass legislation codifying discrimination into law, it’s clear that we need the Equality Act more than EVER.
