The FDIC announced this morning that it has seized First Republic, and that JP Morgan will be purchasing substantially all of the bank's assets and deposits. First Republic ($229.1 billion in assets) eclipsed Silicon Valley Bank as the [second-largest bank failure in U.S. history](. The move comes days after the bank reported losing about 40% of its deposits in the first quarter this year when customers pulled their money out and moved it to banks seen as safer and offering better returns.
