I’m going for daily walks, trying new recipes, finding new things to feel paranoid about, and I think I believe in aliens now. Thrillist wants to keep your day feeling like a winding road. Today, there’s a list of every ghost town in every state, an article about all of the cool things to look at in the August night sky, the scoop on vegan barbecue, a review of the 12-serving margarita can (hiccup), and a delivery deal for cheesecake. Stay strong, be brave, and listen to Sheryl Crow, who also said, “I'm gonna soak up the sun/I got my 45 on/So I can rock on…” Is this relevant? Have a great weekend!! -Ned Riseley, Newsletter Contributor [ [( travel [] [There Is a Ghost in Every State]( We are living in spooky times, and this article has a spooky list of all of the spookiest ghost towns in all 50 states. No state is spooky! I, of course, looked for the Massachusetts ghost town first, since that’s where I am right now, and found that it is a place called “Dogtown,” which I associate with that movie with Emile Hirsch about the skaters, but in this case, it is completely different. This “Dogtown” is named after the wild dogs that used to roam the streets and is still haunted by the witches that once lived there. I am ready to light my lantern, don my cloak, and scour the woods of Dogtown. [] [There’s Something in the Attic]( [( [( backyard observatory [] [The Perseid Meteor Shower Is Here]( August is a great month to look up at the sky and dissociate. July was jam-packed with starry spectaculars, and while August is a little more subdued, there are still plenty of incredible astronomical sights to see. Apparently, August will be the time to see one of the year’s best meteor showers. Venus and the Moon will be conjunct, which I’m sure means something astrological and astronomical. Well, I just looked it up, and the moon being conjunct with Venus brings peace and harmony to your life and makes you more popular and sexually attractive, but also more sensitive. I dunno—this astrology seems a little sketchy. Maybe it’s best to just get out the telescope and focus on astronomy. Enjoy! [] [Blast Off]( [( *720x300 Ad Banner [( the new smoke [] [You Contain Multitudes: Try Vegan Grilling]( This is a review of VBQ: The Ultimate Vegan Barbecue Book, a new vegan BBQ cookbook. Every time I eat vegan food I yell, “This tastes like real food!” and someone has to assure me that veganism is not about fake food, just about plants (or something). I really like the playful contradiction of the BBQ concept, firing up the grill and scorching some tofu, or blanching some tempeh before they face the fiery coals. I have always thought of veganism as hardcore, but not quite in a grilling kind of way. I can’t wait to sear some cauliflower and slather it in BBQ sauce with the boys! [] [Take Me to Tempeh]( [( [( news [] [Why Have One Margarita When You Can Have 12?]( I remember writing about this infamous margarita a few weeks back. Well, now Thrillist has a play-by-play review of the party beverage and what to expect, should you dare to indulge. Amber Sutherland-Namako gives a riveting account of her encounter with this novelty beverage that made me want to try it. I love a novelty, I love a margarita, and I love buying in bulk. AND they are offering a deal where you might land yourself a free one. Their 9-inch cheesecakes can serve 16 people. While I HEARTILY DISCOURAGE gatherings of any kind at this time, I applaud any person who can eat one of these cheesecakes by themselves—an incredible coping strategy for month six of quarantine.
