A cheery sitcom about ghosts and a “Muppets” Halloween special supply the cute spooks, while over at AFC Richmond, Coach Ted Lasso continues to be haunted by his own kind of demons. But if we know anything about that crew, there’ll be plenty of jokes to accompany the tears. On with the television! [Premiere of the week] “Ghosts” Thursday, October 7, CBS [Ghosts] Photo: CBS Unlike “The Sixth Sense,” seeing dead people is actually not such a terrifying thing in “Ghosts.” The feel-good comedy (yes, really!) is based on a hit British sitcom about a gaggle of ghosts in a country estate and the flummoxed writer who becomes the first human they’re able to interact with. To that we say: Let Jason Sudeikis & Co. experiment a little, dammit, and trust that they’ll land this plane! Heaven knows they’ve tried. [[INTERVIEW](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “Madame X”Friday, October 8, Paramount+ [Madame X] Photo: Paramount+ No phones were allowed during Madonna’s “Madame X” tour, a run of intimate theater shows in 2019 and 2020, so this concert film — which captures a performance in Lisbon, Portugal — is a salve for fans who didn’t get to see the spectacle in person. It’s named after Madge’s fearless alter-ego, a globetrotting secret agent fighting for freedom, so expect lots of over-the-top theatrics and costumes. In other words, Madonna. [[TRAILER](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “15 Minutes of Shame”Thursday, October 7, HBO Max [15 minutes of shame monica lewinsky max joseph] Photo: John Johnson/HBO Max Few people know the dangers of public shaming like Monica Lewinsky, who’s teamed up with former “Catfish” host Max Joseph to executive produce a doc all about cancel culture. “15 Minutes” dives into the real-life stories, psychology and business of online shaming and the world’s nasty obsession with tearing people down. And with fall (American) football season in full swing, there’s no better time to revisit the Dillon Panthers. There’s a little something here for everyone: sports drama, family drama, high school drama… and Tim effin’ Riggins. You simply (clear eyes, full hearts) can’t lose. [[WATCH](] [- - -] [Premiere of the week] “Bad Sport” Wednesday, October 6, NetflixAfter the sports-crime saga “Untold” from earlier this year, Netflix is back with another docuseries about the biggest crimes and controversies in athletics history. This one will tackle the 2002 Olympics figure skating scandal, Indycar racer Randy Lanier’s drug-trafficking operation and the point-shaving scandal at Arizona State University, among other sporty scandals. [[TRAILER](] “Acapulco” Friday, October 8, Apple TV+ From the creator and showrunner of “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” (R.I.P.) comes a bilingual comedy about a cabana boy whose new resort job isn’t as glam as he dreamt it’d be. It’s set in 1984 Mexico, so expect some colorful throwback fashion ala “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” coupled with some “White Lotus”-esque eccentricities courtesy of the resort’s quirky guests. [[TRAILER](] “One of Us Is Lying”Thursday, October 7, PeacockTV teens just can’t stop killing each other (see: “Pretty Little Liars,” “Cruel Summer” and about 100 more). In the latest high school murder mystery, five high schoolers walk into detention — but only four make it out alive. Secrets are flying, everyone’s a suspect… you know the drill. The series streams in three weekly batches, with the first trio of episodes out Oct. 7. [[TRAILER](] “Muppets Haunted Mansion” Friday, October 8, Disney+If Eddie Murphy’s ’03 take on “Haunted Mansion” wasn’t your thing, maybe you’ll be more into the new Muppetized version, which bills itself as a musical comedy based on the classic Disneyland ride. Joining Kermit, Gonzo and the gang is a cast of human characters that includes Taraji P. Henson, Will Arnett, Danny Trejo and even the late Ed Asner. [[TRAILER](] “On My Block“ Monday, October 4, Netflix The high school drama will jump two years into the future for its fourth and final season, which follows a group of friends’ growing pains in South Central Los Angeles. But don’t cry, “OMB” faithfuls — Netflix has already ordered a spinoff called “Freeridge” to take you back to the block. [[TRAILER](] “The Walking Dead” Sunday, October 3, AMC+Part 1 of the long-running zombie drama’s 11th and final season comes to a close on Sunday and will hopefully answer some of our burning questions.
