Most of the victims burned to death, with at least seven other inmates hospitalized with gun or knife wounds. President Xiomara Castro blamed the incident on gang violence and fired the country’s security minister, who will now be replaced by the director of the Honduras National Police. The prison is located about 20 miles northwest of the capital, Tegucigalpa. Prisoners belonging to [the Barrio 18 gang]( had reportedly entered a cell block, shooting other inmates or setting them on fire. Relatives awaiting news of their loved ones confirmed that inmates had said they feared the gang. Sudan Heavy fighting broke out on Wednesday between rival military factions in [several parts of the Sudanese capital]( shortly after the expiration of a shaky 72-hour ceasefire. Witnesses reported airstrikes, artillery fire and ground fighting. The renewed violence also signals that attempts by the US and Saudi Arabia to extend the truce have failed. More than two months of fighting between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) — centered around Khartoum and the western Darfur region — has left thousands of people dead and [displaced more than 2.5 million]( others. Caribbean [Tropical Storm Bret]( is strengthening as it heads toward the islands in the eastern Caribbean, which have braced for torrential rainfall, landslides and flooding. The storm is not, however, expected to become a hurricane as was previously forecast. It’s expected to make landfall in the Lesser Antilles.
