Mexican authorities have [arrested Ovidio Guzmán-López](, son of notorious drug kingpin "El Chapo." Guzmán-López is himself alleged to be a leader of his father's former drug cartel. The arrest sparked violence, with gang members setting up roadblocks, setting fire to vehicles and attacking a local airport. At least 19 suspected gang members and 10 military personnel were killed. More than 100 flights had to be canceled at several Sinaloa airports. The countryâs defense minister, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, said that [US officials provided support]( for the six-month surveillance operation that led to the capture of Guzmán-López. Kenya
Kenyan police are [investigating the death]( of 25-year-old fashion designer, model and LGBTQ+ activist Edwin Chiloba, whose body was found in a metal box by the side of a road on Wednesday. A police spokesperson said that the motive for his killing is still unknown, though rights activists have called for speedy investigations into [attacks on LGBTQ+ people](. The southern Iraqi city of Basra is hosting the 25th [Arabian Gulf Cup football tournament]( that kicks off on Friday. Itâs the first time Iraq has hosted the games since 1979. The country was banned from the tournament between 1992 to 2004 over political reasons when it was under the regime of former President Saddam Hussein, but itâs won the cup three times and finished as a runner-up twice. The [opening matches]( are between Iraq and Oman, followed by Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
