The 5th District has [no incumbent.]( Democrat Gloria Witt will take on Republican State Sen. John McGuire, who ousted fellow MAGA Rep. Bob Good in a tight primary. Some Good voters have vowed to write him in, which may benefit Witt in an otherwise GOP-leaning district. In the 7th District, which also has [no incumbent,]( Democrat Eugene Vindman is up against Republican Derrick Anderson for a seat currently held by Democrat Abigail Spanberger, who is leaving to run for governor in 2025. Finally, Democratic State Sen. Suhas Subramanyam will take on Republican Mike Clancy for the [10th district seat]( being vacated by Democrat Jennifer Wexton, who is leaving for health reasons. [Article Icon 1]Electric Bills Set to Jump Dominion Energy is projecting that electricity bills [will increase by 2.7%]( annually for the next 15 years, meaning the average electric bill in the state would jump 50% by 2040. The Commonwealth’s many data centers are increasing the demand for energy, potentially by two-thirds. Virginia is the top site in the world for such hubs, with [more than one-third]( of the planet’s data centers in our state. Dominion promises to keep rates down and notes that Virginians currently [pay less]( than our neighbors in other states, 13.31 cents per kWh as opposed to 15.11 per kWh in the entire South Atlantic region. It also promises to develop more zero-emission electricity, like that from the [Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind]( project. Another zero-emission solution may be deep beneath our feet: geothermal energy. Several companies [are working on]( projects that could make geothermal available by the end of this decade.
