Also: Spirit Airlines drops 37 routes [The Points Guy]( WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TODAY Nov 11, 2022 SPONSORED BY [TPG] A MIXED BAG ON TRAVEL INFLATION Happy Friday, TPG readers. The weekend is upon us, and I have good travel news to share — kind of. The latest inflation data has been released and it appears hotel rates are finally going down. Don’t celebrate just yet: The price of an airline ticket is still sky-high. The latest Consumer Price Index data shows airfare in the U.S. is up a whopping 43% from a year ago and up 3.5% from just a month ago. It’s hard to imagine that changing over the span of the holiday travel season. But hotel guests got a little bit of a pricing reprieve. While hotel rates are more than 6% higher than a year ago, prices came down 0.5% from a month ago. It may not seem like much, but keep in mind: Hotel rates were a leading cause of inflation beginning at the end of last year. We [still aren’t anticipating a flurry of travel deals]( this winter amid the rise in holiday travel demand. But the fact that hotel rates — and overall inflation — appear to be turning a corner at least provides a little glimmer of hope that maybe our travel wallets are finally going to catch a break.
