1. The Pivot Is Real, And Itâs Spectacular
By Ben Domenech Trump doesnât like McConnell and Ryan, and never did. He likes Chuck Schumer, and knows Chuck always makes money for his partners.
---------------------------------------------------------------
So President Trump calls the leadership of the Republicans and Democrats into the Oval Office today for a meeting about what to do about the debt ceiling and funding the government, and he promptly does something that Washington shouldâve expected, but didnât because theyâre locked in to bad conventional wisdom: he overruled his aides to side with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi over Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan. The pivot is real, and itâs spectacular.

2. How The Transgender Crusade Made Me Rethink My Support For Gay Marriage
By Bethany Mandel The Left has shown the totalitarian manner in which it exacts support, or at least silence, from everyday Americans. Gay marriage was just a wedge.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Over the course of the last few months, whenever I write or tweet anything, on any topic, I usually receive a caustic social media response about my position on transgenderism. These trolls post links to my tweets about the subject and screenshots, as if showing me my own recent opinion is some sort of gotcha. These individuals even send tweets to my husband and employers, perhaps in hope that they will use their power over me to get my opinion in check with The Approved Position.

3. After Experiencing British And U.S. Health Care, This Family Says Single-Payer Is Abominable
By Jayme Metzgar
Britainâs socialized health service planned to make Kim wait for surgery until a full year after her first kidney stone attack. But I got my husband a next-day appointment in the United States.

As the GOPâs latest, half-hearted effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act crashed and burned this summer, the Left celebrated. President Obamaâs signature policy lives. Still, itâs not at all certain that it wonât soon succumb to natural causes. As insurers continue to flee the Obamacare markets, choices are reduced, plans are canceled, and premiums skyrocket, weâre left with a status quo that appears unsustainable.
If replacing Obamacare is not a matter of âifâ but âwhen,â the billion-dollar question is: what will that replacement look like? With Republicans floundering and much of their congressional delegation too cowardly to give free-market reforms a chance, liberals are far more united and dedicated to principle: they want single-payer.

At least 50 have died during the storm and its aftermath, and the Houston mayor issued an evacuation order for the 4,600 remaining in west Houston on Sunday, as flooding will likely last another two weeks.

5. Rescinding DACA Is The Right Thing To Do
By David Harsanyi
Political theater or not, it's probably unconstitutional. Something the pretend-defenders of 'democratic norms' might want to remember.
---------------------------------------------------------------
This week, for the first time, Americans were able to read the Inauguration Day letter Barack Obama left for Donald Trump, imploring the new president to defend âdemocratic institutions and traditions â like rule of law, separation of powers, equal protection and civil liberties.â Presidents have a duty to set aside partisanship, Obama wrote, because âitâs up to us to leave those instruments of our democracy at least as strong as we found them.â
Oh, câmon. There is no worse person in the world to lecture presidents on the importance of separation of powers. None. If thereâs one thing that exemplified Obamaâs administration, it was its embrace of executive unilateralism. No administration in memory was stopped more often by courts on this frontâoften by unanimous Supreme Court decisions.
