[The decision effectively ends affirmative action policies for institutions of higher education.](=.HdJV5pDsUVDzyWcEQu4J4d46ts3jFJE4RSOcLqIIVgk) In his majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote: “Many universities have for too long wrongly concluded that the touchstone of an individual’s identity is not challenges bested, skills built, or lessons learned, but the color of their skin. This Nation’s constitutional history does not tolerate that choice.” Fortunately, our Supreme Court has ruled that Universities can no longer practice such blatant racism. However, one of the Justices particularly displeased with the ruling is Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson -- best known for her [leniency in prosecuting sex predators](=.djbAT5QdUYDRPIcxK27pYGLak8XtbHGyHzQ_binQkao) and her inability to [define “woman”](=.1fUZtHryiLYJM78zXql_j48uyNfr8li6DWc5fe6ie1k) in her confirmation hearing. And of course she’s upset, as affirmative action is [the main reason why she is a Supreme Court Justice.](=.XqmlHwK-ETTFHKmi0LOEjzWvaXbrTerSBqKhnejbWUs) Before Joe Biden became President, he made it clear that [nominating a black woman](=.APwuLPavS27tqM4UcTptpwJXG0sU4_JvioOUMnyRnPA) to the Supreme Court was a top priority, regardless of other more qualified candidates. Meanwhile, Justice Clarence Thomas -- the longest-serving member of the current court -- stated that one of the reasons he concurred with the majority's ruling was his rejection of the assumption that race, rather than merit, is the primary driver of success. Those in favor of affirmative action believe [state-funded institutions should judge Americans](=.X4eiJFEQHhVZ83UFZtb3nbXJVDpUVzDLnHYFOstljKU) by their skin color rather than their accomplishments and actions. Thankfully the court majority understands that the content of our character says far more about who we are than the color of our skin.
