{NAME}, September is National Preparedness Month, which is a time to get ahead of all of the what-ifs to keep ourselves, our families and our neighbors safe. Every September, the American Red Cross responds to an average of 4,000 disasters. For each, being prepared can make all the difference in keeping families protected. Just take a look at how preparedness made a difference during these previous September disasters:

This photo is labeled with the text: Hurricane Idalia - September 2023]( Hurricane Idalia was the most powerful hurricane to hit Florida’s Big Bend region since 1896, destroying more than 2,100 homes. But as the storm approached, the Red Cross was already on the ground and ready to lend a helping hand. By the numbers:
- More than 980 Red Cross workers deployed
- More than 67,000 overnight stays provided
- More than 21,000 households served [Photo of a Red Cross volunteer hugging a woman in a shelter. This photo is labeled with the text: Hurricane Ian - September 2022](
Prior to the devastation of Hurricane Ian, the Red Cross moved hundreds of relief workers and tens of thousands of relief supplies to Florida so shelters could be operational as soon as they were needed. By the numbers:
- More than 1.7 million meals and snacks served
- More than 60,200 overnight shelter stays
- More than 36,500 households provided with relief supplies [Photo of a Red Cross volunteer in an ERV offering a hot meal to a young man: Hurricane Ida - September 2021](
Hurricane Ida caused heartbreaking destruction, pummeling the U.S. Gulf Coast with heavy winds and rain before inundating the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with major flooding days later. This catastrophic storm tore apart homes, knocked down power lines and left communities reeling for weeks after the clouds cleared. In the aftermath, thousands of Red Cross disaster workers provided residents with crucial immediate relief. By the numbers:
- More than 353,000 relief supplies distributed
- More than 21,100 cases opened to provide recovery support
- More than 44,500 overnight shelter and hotel stays provided At the Red Cross, being prepared keeps our shelves stocked with lifesaving relief supplies. It keeps our emergency response vehicles fueled and ready to reach where no one else can. And it ensures that, no matter what, we can be there for families in need. As we face more frequent and intense disasters than ever, we’re asking for your help to prepare for the challenges of September and beyond. That’s why we’re setting a goal to raise $100,000 to help us respond to disasters big and small. [So please: Will you give now in honor of National Preparedness Month? Your gift will help us reach our goal by Thursday at midnight so we can prepare for — and respond to — disasters like tornadoes, storms, home fires and more.]( When you give, you’re helping to ensure we can be there when — and even before — we’re needed most. [GIVE NOW]( Thank you for helping us to stay prepared,
