Suppose that the machine is asked to try and decide what’s the final word in this sentence: - “The King lived in France. The spoken language around the King’s dinner table was…” The answer is probably “French.” Humans know it because they remember the previous sentence for the context of a location (France). The information about the location is more important than any other words in these two sentences. Therefore, the attention would assign a higher value to the word, “French,” than any other words in the sentences. Here’s the important thing about this: When translating a sequence of words, the machine analyzes one word at a time and there is no notion of dependencies between close words or distant words that may have relevance to the current word being analyzed. Simply said, there are many words that are not as important as “France” in the example sentence, so the machine will still focus on “France” from the first sentence when analyzing each word in the second sentence to try and understand how it is relevant to France. This applies to indicators. There are some indicators that are more important than others. For example, a stock will fluctuate over the month. But it made five new highs. These five highs are more important than any other day’s price movements. After all, five highs could have an implication on the stock’s future movement.
