[graphic logo for Tastemade with elements of hispanic heritage to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month] [Niege Borges]( a visual artist and art director originally from Brazil and now based in Brooklyn, redesigned the Tastemade logo in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. She loves to make bold illustrations, customize clothes, and paint — basically, she can’t stop creating! Read on to learn more about Niege and the process behind her logo design. TASTEMADE: What themes and motifs of Hispanic culture inspired your logo redesign for Tastemade? NIEGE BORGES: I was initially inspired by Latin food and nature, but since Hispanic culture is so vast I had to pick a few elements that are important in different Hispanic countries. We all love our fruits, so I included a mango. We are known for our coffee, so I included that as well. I wanted to add a human element so that’s where the woman dancing came into play. The palm tree and the sun of course are a nod to the tropical countries. I am from Brazil and one of my inspirations was the work of the painter Tarsila do Amaral — she did beautiful and modern landscapes that represent Brazil so well — and I wanted to evoke that a little as well. What do you hope people take away from the logo redesign? My goal was to create a design that would resonate with people and that is vibrant and fun like our culture can be. Latinos are known for being joyful people so I wanted to showcase that. How are you celebrating HHM this month? I’m actually visiting my family and friends in Brazil, so I can’t think of a better way to do it! I will be back in New York for part of HHM and a piece I worked on will be displayed at Times Square so I will be visiting that as well.
