[Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speaks at a gathering](#) In my office I have a photo of Martin Luther King with a small group of people in what looks like a church basement. I show this photo to visitors, especially young visitors, to remind them that Dr. King did not start out with a million people listening to him give his âI Have a Dream Speechâ on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. For a decade he struggled. Meeting with small groups. Organizing. Trying to inspire people to overcome their fears and anger to create a better world, based on love, truth and justice. He often had to face the anxiety of another possible beating or even worse. We face dark and dangerous times. Times none of us could have ever expected. We look to the example of Martin Luther King for hope and inspiration. But we canât just let him inspire us â we need to act on that inspiration too. We must do the hard work necessary to achieve Dr. Kingâs vision of a more equal, more fair, and more just society â thatâs the American Dream we need. The good news is that weâve already started. We elected Joe Biden. We will hold Donald Trump accountable. And we will provide comprehensive relief to folks across the country who are desperate for our help. Together we will work to bend the moral arc of the universe towards justice. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Letâs keep his vision alive â it takes all of us.
