Too much is at risk

That was the day Joe Biden was to be certified as the winner of the Electoral College, and therefore the presidency. But I became a witness to another kind of history when domestic terrorists breached the Capitol and desecrated our sacred Congress. [Click here to watch my appearance on CNN where I discussed the events of last week.]( [Tom recounts the events of January 6th]( Let me say this as plainly as possible: Donald Trump and his enablers are responsible for the catastrophe that took place last Wednesday. Trump lied to his supporters about who won the election, whipped them into a frenzy by encouraging them to converge on the Capitol steps, and remained silent while he hid out in the Oval Office. For these reasons, I support Donald Trump’s immediate removal from power. Whether it’s through the 25th Amendment or impeachment and conviction, he needs to go because he poses a threat to America and American democracy. Tomorrow I will vote to impeach Donald Trump a second time. I’d like to think that our President knows how to do the right thing. But time and again, Donald Trump has shown that he values personal gain over the Constitution. One way or another, he must be removed from office. America deserves a chance to heal, but we can only do so if all those responsible for last week’s siege on the Capitol are held accountable. My duty as a member of Congress is to do just that.
