[Katie Porter](katieporter) Oct 31 katieporter   [READ IN APP](   With less than a week until Election Day, I know a lot of us are feeling a little on edge—myself included. Elections have a way of making people lose perspective, so I try to be intentional in finding ways to keep myself grounded (keep reading until the end for a picture of some of the projects I’ve taken on). In this final stretch, I’m relaunching Beyond The Whiteboard to help you cut through the noise and focus your energy on the things that matter. I hope you’ll learn some things and feel ready for whatever happens next. Thanks for reading Beyond the Whiteboard! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. [Subscribed]() So first, what have I been up to? I’m not on the ballot this November, but I’ve been hard at work campaigning for candidates across California. This includes hosting fundraisers, speaking at rallies, and of course, knocking on doors. Do you know what’s better than sitting at home and obsessing over polls? Turning off the cable news and actually talking to some voters! Your time and energy knocking doors actually makes a difference, and I promise it’s easy, low-pressure, and fun. Tomorrow, you’ll get my How To Canvass tips that are sure to get you off the couch. To find canvass opportunities, visit [mobilize.us]( and sign up. Especially in competitive House races, like we have here in California, that aren’t getting much national attention from the presidential campaigns, a last-minute surge of grassroots energy will be the push that gets our candidates over the finish line. After you finish door knocking, make sure you’re taking some time for self-care. For you, it might be a mug of hot cider and the latest edition of Beyond The Whiteboard. Personally, I’ve been feeling the Halloween spirit, so I made Dorothy’s ruby slippers (with $10, spray glue, and glitter) for my daughter Betsy. Unfortunately, our Toto (a.k.a Poppy) is too big for the basket. Our democracy needs you between now and November 5th to elect candidates up and down the ballot who share our values. Vote, tell your friends and family to vote, and volunteer with a campaign to canvass. But, remember that our democracy is not just about one day; it’s a season. Take care of yourself and be strong! Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
