Jul 1   [READ IN APP](   Yesterday, I had a few things to get, so I went grocery shopping at the local market. I’m a big fan of grocery shopping, it’s always a time I enjoy. I check every item to make sure it passes my inspection. What's in this bag, you ask? Celery, broccoli, milk, peanut butter, and garlic! : ) --------------------------------------------------------------- New recipe: Pan fried tofu with spicy sauce [Pan-fried tofu with spicy seasoning sauce]( made from a block of tofu—how easy it is to make and how healthy it is! It's also delicious. With just a bowl of rice, this side dish, and some kimchi, you have a simple and fantastic meal. I posted this recipe video years ago, but I remade it with precise measurements and an updated recipe for you all. I hope you enjoy it! [The recipe is here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- One-minute video: Salad-ppang! Are you looking for a simple lunch or snack? Try making salad bread (salad-ppang in Korean). It's tasty rolls filled with Korean-style potato salad, something I often made for my children. It was great for them because I could make something fun, pretty, and delicious but also nutritious and not overly greasy. Yum, yum! : ) The [detailed recipe is here](. --------------------------------------------------------------- Bibim-guksu (spicy mixed noodles) [This photo of my reader’s homemade bibim-guksu]( really impressed me! I love the textures and it looks delicious. I often make bibim-guksu (spicy mixed noodles) for lunch, especially in the summer. My key to making it quickly is to overlap some of the preparation. While boiling water for the noodles, I cut cucumbers and kimchi and prepare a seasoning mix at the same time. Then after cooking, rinsing, and draining the noodles, I mix them with the kimchi seasoning. I finish it by adding the cucumber and a boiled egg on top, and sprinkle everything with some sesame seeds. It’s a spicy, refreshing dish in just a few minutes! The chewy noodles with the spicy and sweet seasoning, and the crunchy cucumber and kimchi, are really delicious. My mouth is watering just writing about it. : ) Even though I make this dish often, I never get tired of it. Check out [the recipe here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Doenjang-jjigae made with beef bone broth! [Marlene]( made soybean paste stew with beef, using [beef bone broth]( instead of water. She said it turned out so delicious! Beef bone broth makes everything tastier and heartier, so I can imagine this stew is pretty delicious and nutritious. I’m going to try this sometime. Check out my [soybean paste stew with beef here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- My reader's first homemade kimchi! [bluezkittles]( made this kimchi for the first time with my recipe! I was amazed at how perfectly it turned out. The cabbage is perfectly salted, and the kimchi paste's consistency and the color of the gochu-garu (hot pepper flakes) look flawless. For those of you who have never made kimchi but have thought about trying it someday, don't hesitate any longer! You can make kimchi like this too. [The recipe is here]( --------------------------------------------------------------- Messages from readers & viewers You always make my day brighter and give me so much to think about! Here are a few of your messages that I've selected to share with you this month. [Ridick]( in India who watched my [stir-fried fern brake (gosari-bokkeum)]( and asked a question. I think some of you might have the same question, so I’d like to share my answer here. Dear Maangchi, I am from India…. gosari grows every where in my place, the process which the lovely nun in the video taught us is so valuable but I want to know more about preparing fresh gosari. Can we directly cook the fresh gosari ? My reply: Yes! In a large pot, bring the water to a boil, add the fresh gosari (fernbrake) and cook them for about 15 minutes. Check the stems—once they feel slightly soft, remove them from the heat. Rinse in cold water and soak for 12 hours, changing the water several times to remove bitterness and toxins. Afterward, you can stir-fry them or sun-dry them for later use. --------------------------------------------------------------- In my rice punch (sikhye in Korean) video, I used my rice cooker. [One of my readers asked]( how they can make rice punch without one. My reply: Yes, if you don’t have a rice cooker or if you are making a large quantity of sikhye, you can use a large pot instead. --------------------------------------------------------------- [This message]( from my reader made me so happy! I always give your recipes to my friends who ask me how to make delicious Korean foods. And they always give me positive feedbacks. --------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you enjoyed reading my letter. See you next month on August 1st! Keep being happy with your delicious Korean cooking! 👏 I have hundreds of recipes [on my website]( just use the search box to find what you’re looking for (that’s what I do). Enjoy your summer and stay cool! 😎 Love, Maangchi ❤️   [Like]( [Comment]( [Restack](   © 2024 Maangchi Manhattan, New York [Unsubscribe]() [Get the app]( writing]()
