[Homed] Hi {NAME}, We have wrapped up our summer Bach of the Week series this week with [a beautiful wee bach at Kairakau Beach]( near Elsthorpe in Hawke’s Bay. This one’s a classic - the listing agent describes it as a real “Kiwiana” bach. It still has its original kitchen cabinets, 50s carpet in the bedrooms, and wallpaper from way back in the day. There’s even an outhouse with a bright yellow door, and a roof covered in scarlet bougainvillea. The owners haven’t bothered to do much to it in the past 48 years, apart from regular maintenance. They’ve just rocked up with the family and spent their days swimming, boating, fishing and diving for pāua and crays. It’s an enviable lifestyle, and while this one is at the cheaper end of the market (RV $690,000), it seems there’s still a demand for more pricey properties. We also ran a story this week about the couple who bought [the cute wee bach on the beach at Whangapoua]( on the Coromandel Peninsula. They currently live in Whangamatā and are going to make this bach their permanent home. The sale price has not been released but we know the owners were looking for offers somewhere up near $3 million. And the great thing is this couple love it as it is. They don’t want a McMansion - they will leave it as a small, single-storey cottage hidden among the pōhutukawa. Because, of course, baches are best when they’re all about simplicity, and [new award-winning baches reflect this](. And maybe we could bring a bit of that laid-back summer feel to our everyday lives.
