Hi everyone, In my house, the hour after trick or treating on Halloween is spent calculating the haul and trading unwanted goods with a sibling. The loot that no-one wants goes to me. I think it’s a distraction technique used by my most cunning son, who tries to hide most of his stash to avoid it being rationed. For my five-year-old daughter though, 2018 will be a tale of woe. She scoffed the entirety of her loot bag before getting home, and all she was left with were tears and plastic wrappers by the dozen. Once I had dried her tears, I tended to the detritus left behind by three candy-fuelled kids intent on ingesting as much as they could. There was a depressingly large amount of rubbish to deal with, more than some super green folk produce in a year. My thoughts always turn to Christmas after Halloween but this year instead of stressing over present ideas, I find myself dreading the mountain destined for landfill. I’m determined things will be different in 2018 and will share more on that in coming weeks. We’ve noticed stories with a green or eco theme are being read by more and more of you which I think reflects what feels to be a sea change in public sentiment. I really hope it is. In the meantime, I hope you don’t just enjoy this week’s offerings, I hope you’re inspired by them to make even a small change. Colleen O'HanlonEditor Enjoying this email? Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
