They almost always say the same thing too: âSomeone who loves the house as much as we did,â and, âI hope they restore the house⦠but Iâm pragmatic about it.â By which they mean, they accept it may be removed or pulled down to make way for more homes. Itâs always delightful to follow up on the sales of these old homes and find theyâve been bought by folks who do, in fact, love the homes as much - if not more - than the owners who sold them. It was delightful to chat to one of [the buyers of Springer House, in Paraparaumu,]( Jodie Youmans, who has big plans for restoring this classic Nigel Cook-designed home to its former glory. The home has heritage protection now, but was almost demolished to make way for Transmission Gully. I also got wind that [this very dilapidated 1920s home in the centre of Lower Hutt](, which would have been surrounded by market gardens when it was built, has been bought by a couple determined to bring it back to its original state. Apparently they duked it out with a developer at auction and won. Iâm hoping to have more about that on Homed in the future. Itâs clear we need more homes if weâre going to make first-time buying easier, and I usually support quality infill housing, but I canât help feeling glad these houses have found their champions and will be restored for future generations to enjoy. Let us know what you think. Should we be saving these old homes? Have a great weekend! Kylie Klein Nixon Senior Homed Reporter Kylie Klein Nixon Senior Homed Reporter Enjoying this email?
