Quentin Cassidy came to Aotearoa to help repair Canterbury’s historic buildings after the 2011 earthquakes, and he has built a life for himself here since. That includes building a unique home in Christchurch’s Cashmere Estate. It’s a sight to behold with its 120 tonnes of stone cladding - and is apparently super-well insulated. The large two-storey home has been a labour of love, with Cassidy working on it after hours and on weekends. The build took two years, with the stone facade taking eight months to complete. Quentin says he added it “stone by stone”. “I have to say there were some hard times, but determination, the love of a good woman and a few pints of Guinness at my local can really turn things around."
