In a recession or stock market crash, people will always find a way to pay the power bill. In these uncertain economic times, you should focus on long-term investment trends that are unstoppable. The growing need for utilities will never wane. The utility sector outperformed the S&P 500 by 21 percentage points in 2022. But in 2023, utilities stocks lost favor with an investing public that clamored for huge growth stocks — especially in the Big Tech sector. However, after a volatile stretch, utilities stocks have returned to growth in 2024… and should continue to flourish in the coming years.
