Oliver Darcy, the writer of the well-known "Reliable Sources" newsletter, has parted ways with the major outlet under Warner Bros. Discovery's umbrella. Darcy has decided to start a newsletter titled "Status," which has no backers. What's "Status" about? Darcy is going all in, stating, "Drawing on a deep well of sourcing and industry expertise, 'Status' delivers hard-hitting reporting and unflinching analysis on the Fourth Estate, Hollywood, and Silicon Valley." Basically, he's started a leftists gossip newsletter. At present, [neither Darcy nor his former outlet]( has made any comments about the situation. However, an insider confirms that Darcy has indeed parted ways with the news network, leaving the future of "Reliable Sources" unclear. For those who might be unaware, "Reliable Sources" was a flagship program that aired for 30 years on Sunday mornings. It was a media watchdog, focusing on how news was handled, often related to Washington's news cycle. It began with Bernard Kalb at the helm, succeeded by Howard Kurtz, and then Brian Stelter took over and drove it into the ground because he was a lackey. In 2022, a major shift occurred when the outlet decided to part ways with Stelter after canceling the TV show. Stelter had become a joke on social media because of his horrible reporting. Darcy's last "Reliable Sources" newsletter, released on Wednesday evening, did not mention his exit. However, the top story of the day was a critical look at the disappointing financial outcome at Warner Bros. Discovery, which reported a massive $9.1 billion write-down on the value of its TV networks on Wednesday. "David Zaslav had a particularly tough day," Darcy wrote in the newsletter's introduction. It also be that Darcy knew that "Reliable Sources" may be going away because Warner Bros. has been streamlining the network. Recently they just eliminated portions of their website to save costs.
