He was out bear hunting with his son Owen near their cabin in western Wisconsin, sitting in a tree stand, when a black bear approached. Owen's first shot missed the kill. They tracked down the wounded bear, and it charged at Ryan, knocking him to the ground, where he ended up in a deadly wrestling match. Hitting the bear with his sidearm "felt like I was striking a brick wall," Ryan told the Star Tribune. "I’m fighting for my life. I’m punching and kicking and flailing around," Ryan said. "That’s when I saw a flash from the muzzle of Owen’s rifle." Owen saved his dad with that shot. Ryan was left with fang marks in his forehead and a slice to his cheek, his face so mangled that his phone did not recognize him. "I was proud of Owen. He really held it together," Ryan said. Last year, Detroit's DTW knocked MSP from the top spot in the prestigious J.D. Power airport satisfaction survey. But this year MSP, serving 35 million passengers annually, regained the top spot it last won in 2022. I'm from Detroit, so before MSP was my home airport, DTW was. I can confidently say it's an extremely tight race -- both airports are clean, comfortable and fun places to spend a long layover. Especially compared to Newark (awarded last place).
