Demonstrators demanded the U divest from companies that have ties to Israel. Hamas' stunning attack on Israel sparked a conflict that has claimed the lives of thousands of Palestinian civilians. In response to a data request from the Star Tribune, university leaders recently detailed how much of its $4.5 billion budget is dedicated to contracts with ties to Israel. All told, such spending totals about $1 million. And about two-thirds of that pays for software that powers the U's library systems. These figures, which have not yet been reported by other media outlets, shed light on the depth of the demands protesters made while they camped on the Twin Cities campus off and on for more than a week. But you won't catch her in the recording studio any time soon. Instead, Nelson is working on a memoir. Her older brother, the Purple One himself, will likely occupy some part of it. Nelson sat down with reporter Jon Bream to dish about the project, her upcoming engagement at the Dakota in Minneapolis and, of course, her brother. The top floor caved in at 9:30 p.m. the night before. Nobody was hurt, and the incident led Minneapolis to adopt stricter ramp inspection guidelines and repair rules. Corrosion led the ramp to fall apart, officials found. Four years later, the city shut down two more ramps amid safety concerns, and the owners of two more voluntarily closed theirs temporarily. That 1988 follow-up was penned by none other than Randy Furst, whose reporting acumen is rivaled only by his own ability to whip up enthralling activities for the kiddos at company picnics. So imagine my delight when I came upon this captivating Reddit post by user iama_computer_person boosting the Taylors Falls Queen, which offers 45- or 80-minute tours on the St. Croix daily. Back in grade school, I lost my lunch after that field trip, but I'm much more sea- and river-worthy now. The border waters that separate Minnesota and Wisconsin will never test my faculties.
