Bill de Blasio still doing "due diligence" on Mets sale Michael Karas/USA Today Reporting from SNY's Andy Martino last night yielded two important items, one positive for Mets fans and the other less so. The good, [from Martino's sources]( - "Steve Cohen will still be approved in a vote on Friday of MLB owners, according to sources." The bad: - "The sale can’t close anyway until de Blasio signs off. - "According to league sources, the mayor recently called the commissioner’s office and informed Rob Manfred of his opposition to the sale. The New York Post was first to report the call." A spokesman for de Blasio on Wednesday confirmed the call but disputed the conversation as an objection of the sale: - "The NYC Law department is doing their due diligence of examining a new lease on incredibly valuable city-owned land. That's what the call was about ... he called to discuss the review process." Two more nuggets from Martino's reporting: - "Despite that, parties involved in the sale continue to believe that the mayor will ultimately approve. They have been working to figure out how to satisfy his concerns." - "It’s definitely a thing." Every Met and Yankee wh0 became a free agent yesterday Gary A. Vasquez/USA Today Roughly 150 MLB players hit free agency yesterday. 14 of them [were Mets]( and four [were Yankees]( which means, most notably, the [re-sign DJ LeMahieu]( campaign is officially underway. Free agents for the Mets: - Wilson Ramos - Robinson Chirinos - Todd Frazier - Yoenis Cespedes - Jared Hughes - Jed Lowrie - Jake Marisnick - Eduardo Nunez - Rick Porcello - Erasmo Ramirez - Rene Rivera - Marcus Stroman - Michael Wacha - Justin Wilson Notes: - The Mets declined Wilson Ramos' $10 million option for 2021 yesterday, which triggers a $1.5 million buyout. - Robinson Chirinos and Todd Frazier, both acquired at the trade deadline, both had their team options declined. - The Mets have until Nov. 2 to extend a one-year, $18 million qualifying offer to Marcus Stroman, who can accept or test the free agency waters. For the Yankees: - DJ LeMahieu - Erik Kratz - Masahiro Tanaka - James Paxton Notes: - The Yankees have until Friday to either opt into Zack Britton's $14 million option for 2022 or risk him becoming a free agent this offseason. The Red Bulls: Now have a five-game unbeaten streak and are 8-8-5, comfortably in position to make the playoffs, which start Nov. 8.
