But It’s also exciting! This year flew by, but we still have two months to do some great work. And what’s the best kind of work that we can do right now? I’ll tell you! Let’s get unstuck. QUOTE OF THE WEEK “Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.” – Sam Levenson THE STORY In 2015, I bought an online course that changed my life. It was called Best Year Ever by one of my mentors, Michael Hyatt. (The online course does not exist anymore, although he does have a book of the same name. Michael’s Full Focus Planner also teaches the same principles.) His course taught me a few things: #1 – A great online course doesn’t have to be very long. While other courses promoted “65 hours of video content,” Michael’s course was only five lessons totaling one hour and fifteen minutes. That was it. This is why our courses at SPI are also about getting to the outcome quicker, not bombarding you with superfluous information that delays your results. #2 – Goal setting must be looked at holistically. I bought his course to develop better business goals and set myself up for success in 2016. However, within the first lesson, I learned that success wasn’t just about business goals — it was about so much more. “Real life is multifaceted,” he says, which is why he offered ten interrelated domains by which we can create goals: - Spiritual - Intellectual - Emotional - Physical - Marital - Parental - Social - Vocational - Avocational - Financial This blew my mind because I was focusing on just a few: vocational (career/business), financial, and physical. The exercise of going through each category and asking myself, “What’s important to me, and how do I want to grow here?” got me to think about my life in new ways. I can honestly say that setting marital and parental goals for the next year changed my life, and the life of my family, forever. #3 – Goal getting for the next year should start now. Yes, goal getting. Meaning, don’t just plan your 2024 goals — go and get them already! There’s no reason to wait until 2024 to start. If writing a book is on the table for next year, start writing now. If you’re hoping to get more physically fit, start working out now. If you’re hoping to build your own online course, begin writing an outline now, or find a single student to walk through a 1-on-1 version of your training before the end of the year. Already having momentum toward my goals on January 1st was the most valuable thing that Michael taught me. It’s the difference between starting a race from a standstill and crossing the starting line at a comfortable pace. You’ll be further ahead, through the start-up jitters, and set up for success. It doesn’t matter exactly what structure you use to set your goals, although I do have two recommendations for you: - Obviously, I’m happy to recommend Michael’s [Full Focus Planner]().
