It's said that it's lonely at the top, but recent data shows about half of workers say they feel lonely, and leaders can help remedy this by creating an inclusive work culture, encouraging socialization and offering chances to interact through mentorships, celebrations or other gatherings, write academics Shea Fan, Fei Zhu and Margaret Shaffer. "These investments in alleviating workplace loneliness will result in employees having a stronger sense of belonging to organizations and being more productive," they write. An internet search on ways to motivate employees often leads to misinformation or unproven ideas, just one example of how artificial intelligence can lead us astray, writes Susan Fowler, an author and the founder of Mojo Moments and MojoCoach. Some of the incorrect information Fowler found: the idea that rewards are effective motivators, that asking workers what they want elicits their real needs and that Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a proven theory. [] [Handling communication during a cyberattack](
Organizations face significant challenges during a cyberattack, including the loss of internal and external communication systems and internal staff coordination, Aarhus University professor Winni Johansen and research intern Marit Lott write. During an attack, prioritize improvisation and resilience, establish alternative communication channels and coordinate response efforts efficiently, they advise. Nikole Reed, regional vice president of INFINITI West, a division of auto company Nissan, said she has learned that leadership is a journey that requires one to delegate, hire the right people around them and involve them in the decision-making process. "I like to get buy-in from my team because that aligns everyone, and sometimes they have great ideas. I don't have the best ideas about everything," Reed says. "You're welcome" is often an automatic response when we're thanked, but the influence of millennials means more customer service reps are replying with such phrases as "no problem" and "mmhmm." Some millennials say they don't use "you're welcome" because they feel it has a passive-aggressive tone since their parents used it sarcastically. Full Story: [Insider]( (9/26)

My mother would roll in her grave now if she knew [I failed to say, "You're welcome,"]( when someone thanked me. However, I tend to say, "No problem" or "Sure thing" when thanked. In Slack messages, I'm also more likely to use the shorthand of "yw" instead of taking the time to type out, "You're welcome." How do you react when thanked? Do you still use "You're welcome" or a different reply? [Tell me about it](mailto:candace.chellew@futurenet.com).
