[:joy:] Trending Loveable Stories [:newspaper:] SMILES [Tiny Blue Penguin Says Hesitant Goodbye to Rescuers]( Saving animal lives can often feel like a thankless job, but every now and then, there's a heartwarming story of someone going the extra mile. In Kaikoura, New Zealand, it was a local wildlife hospital that saved an adorable blue penguin from entanglement in plastic netting and brought him back for treatment after suffering severe exhaustion and head wounds. After weeks of loving care, our little feathered friend regained his health and was eventually able to return home. Wildlife Biologist Sabrina Luecht's passion for rescuing native birds led her to found Kaikoura Wildlife Rescue in 2017. Since then, the team has had their hearts broken a few times over caring for seabirds like blue penguins, yellow-eyed penguins, shags, and more. “Many patients arrive in rehab due to human-induced injuries, rather than natural injuries. You do your very best for every patient, but some cannot be saved despite treatment and countless hours, which is always saddening. The best aspects of wildlife rehabilitation are saving native birds… Releasing birds back into the wild makes it all worthwhile." Says Sabrina. Saying goodbye and sending the little blue penguin home was harder than they thought. The penguin developed a special bond with his caretakers. As it took those final steps away, all the memories and moments seemed to come flooding back before it was pulled in by the ocean waves ahead of him. The penguin knew it was time to go home but couldn't resist a few last looks towards his caretakers. As soon as the penguin's feet met the ocean's embrace, it seemed at home. It charged into the waves with energy and joy, zipping into the depths that was his home and happiness. But despite the physical traumas endured from formerly being mistreated by an owner that eventually faced punishment for animal abuse, the shelter never gave up on finding this sweet girl's forever home! And when Peanut (formerly known as Petunia), finally settled into said 'forever' family after months in recovery, who would have guessed that she'd do the rescuing from that point on? It was 11 AM in the morning, and Peanut was going absolutely crazy. Despite the distractions of projects in the garage, Peanut's owners were finally forced to take notice when she started going crazy, barking and yelping while running up and down stairs. Her parents opened their door only for little Peanut to barrel outside like lightning until she stopped suddenly by a ditch. Then, they saw it. A toddler shivering in the water with no clothes. Peanut's parents took action immediately, covering the toddler with their own clothes and calling 911. By the time the ambulance arrived, the little girl could only say one thing: "doggie." Thankfully, apart from being shaken up and frightened, the little girl appeared unharmed. While medical personnel took her for tests at the nearby hospital, authorities tracked down her parents to figure out the root cause of this alarming situation. They discovered that the toddler was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. They quickly moved to recover the toddler's sister from that household and brought them both under the protection of Child Protective Services. The lives of these two young children were saved by Peanut, and all of this happened because Peanut was rescued from her abuse way back when. “Without her, not only would she have been gone from this world, but the life of this little girl might have been taken as well,” Peanut’s owner wrote to Delta Animal Shelter in a letter. When it comes to animals, we love when they take over the spotlight! A recent video revealed just how innocent they can be with one baby horse who found himself stumbling into fame without even trying. It's like something out of a movie: the grand entrance of an impressive team of Clydesdales at a wild west rodeo, and suddenly it comes crashing down with cuteness overload when this tiny baby horse makes its appearance! It stands in stark contrast to its larger peers; we can only imagine what the small foal thought as these giant horses ran all around. But fear not. That little one is definitely being looked after by those majestic animals, one of which was the baby's mother. It was an impressive sight to behold - a massive team of horses proudly prancing around the stadium. But when one small horse trotted out searching for its mom, it stole everyone's hearts! Cheers and applause filled the arena as this determined little foal galloped left and right until it found its beloved mother in amongst her friends. It wasn't seeking fame or glory. All it wanted was to be with Mom!
