Republicans are ready to endorse violence New polling from the nonprofit Public Religion Research Institute has revealed something alarming: Close to one-third of Republicans in the survey, or 30%, agreed with the statement that "true American patriots may have to resort to violence in order to save our country." That was more than the combined total of Democrats and independents who say the same thing (at 11% and 17%, respectively). The firm's CEO and founder Robert Jones said the large proportion of Republicans who appear ready to endorse political violence is "a direct result of former President Trump calling into question the election." Jones noted that according to the same survey, more than two-thirds of Republicans (68%) claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump, as opposed to only 26% of independents and 6% of Democrats. The study also found that 39% of those who believed that Trump had won the 2020 election endorsed potential violence. (Photo by Kent Nishimura / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images) How deep is your spot? Jupiter's iconic Great Red Spot is actually a giant storm, not unlike a massive hurricane on Earth (albeit the Great Red Spot's storm is 1.25 times the width of Earth). Unlike Earth hurricanes, it's been going on for a very long time — at least since 1831, which is when astronomers first spotted it. Now, new observational data from NASA's Juno orbiter has revealed that this huge storm has a lot of depth to it. Specifically, it's about 40 times as deep as the Mariana Trench, the deepest point on Earth. This finding could change how scientists understand the biggest planet in our solar system. Reality is being rewritten before our eyes Many Americans are ignorant of the blatant effort by Republicans to rewrite reality, Salon's Chauncey DeVega writes. Of course, DeVega is referring to the "Big Lie" that Trump won the election, and the political aftermath — including the Department of Justice's botched investigation into what happened during the January 6th Capitol Riot. Our poor collective accounting of the riot will come back to haunt us, DeVega says. "At some point in the near future, the American people and the world will likely learn the full details of the Trump regime's coup plot — or at least, as full an accounting as we will ever get," he says. "But what if the American people simply don't care? What if the overall public response is indifferent?" Turns out it's pretty easy. A few minutes on public online forums led her to a WhatsApp conversation with a "dealer," who explained the process and even promised that they could get her name into digital records databases of people who had been vaccinated. Salon dug into the logistics of the black market for fake vaccine cards — how it works, who is selling and buying, and what the implications are for public health.
