when Republicans make cuts to healthcare programs, this is what happens [from the Rural Outreach Coordinated Campaign]( {NAME}, with our rural healthcare newsletters, we have attempted to descirbe the plight rural Americans face with the healthcare crisis in our nation. One specific area that is suffering is maternal healthcare. From obstetrics to post-partum care, rural America is experiencing an emergency in lack of care. According to a study published in 2017 and a review by CommonWealthFund.org, "As of 2014, more than half of rural counties in the U.S. were considered maternity care deserts, with no hospital-based obstetric services; worsening access has contributed to increases in maternal mortality and morbidities among rural residents, particularly Black women." As a nation with improved studies, research, and healthcare options, we still have some of the highest rates of maternal and infant mortality in the world. While we know that this is a ciritcal and pressing issue, we also know that there are groups on the ground organizing and raising awareness of these devastating statistics. With ROCC, we hope to empower these groups, help to lead organizational efforts to draw attention to these specific areas and gain the traction we need to make an impact and create solutions.
