[RPGnet Forums]( RPGnet Newsletter #192 December 3, 2019 {NAME}, here is this week's RPGnet Newsletter! Farewell Let's get this done at the outset: this'll be the last issue of the RPGnet Newsletter with yr. humble editor at the helm. After almost four years and almost 200 issues, it's time to give somebody else a shot (though we're still figuring out who that will be). It's been great fun and thanks very much to everyone who has been reading along and offering feedback and content. New Columns Just one new Column last week: I talked about moving PbP groups from one scene to another and avoiding stalling out in the newest issue of Words on a Screen: [Exeunt Stage Left.]( New Reviews Antonios S reviewed enough tabletop games to fill your whole gaming closet: - [Unlock! Timeless Adventures]( is the sixth game of the Unlock! game line of cooperative escape room simulations which brought an obvious improvement to the line's mechanics and guiding principles. - [Blitzkrieg!]( is an an abstract two-player wargame that achieves a lot more than what its small size and deceivingly easy gameplay would suggest. - [Azul]( is a tile-laying game for two to four players and an excellent gateway game for new gamers. - [Pandemic: Rapid Response]( is a a tight, well-designed, ultra-focused, real-time, dice-chucking game which rewards fast thinking and immediate actions. - [Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas]( is an autonomous game based on the Catan gaming engine that has an innovative feel but is weighed down by poor quality components. - [Arkham Horror: Final Hour]( is a one to four player cooperative game that delivers as a shortish, limited information game with deduction elements. And, Endzeitgeist reviewed some OSR RPG products: - [Monkey Business]( is a is an inspired gonzo adventure toolkit that leaves a lot of heavy lifting for the GM. - [AX1: d30 DM Companion]( is an exceedingly powerful DM's toolkit for D&D-adjacent fantasy games, particularly for 0e, B/X and 1e. - [AX2: d30 Sandbox Companion]( follows up on the success of AX1 that is an excellent toolkit for anyone generating a fantasy adventure. Threads You Might Have Missed You could do much worse than this thread as an idea mine for your next campaign: [Media where the "bad guy" winning would be pretty interesting.]( One place where RPGnet shines is in the discussion of things that seem like the fundamentals of running games, like in this thread: [Combat and Description.]( And, speaking of which, here's a great thread with some ideas on how to GM your faceless hordes of enemies: [Minions, Extras, and Quick NPCs -- Best/Worst/Your Rules.]( Sign Off Have a good week, everyone. - Iustum Newsletter Editor [Unsubscribe from mailing list]( [Visit RPGnet Forums](
