[RPGnet Forums]( RPGnet Newsletter #171 May 7, 2019 {NAME}, here is this week's RPGnet Newsletter! New Columns With a funnier version of a scene from a recent movie, Fuzzy Thinking from Christopher Cecil presents: [Round Killing Things.]( And, I wrote about player vs. player conflict in play-by-post games in the latest issue of Words on a Screen: [PbP PvP.]( New Reviews Andrew Hind reviewed the 3rd party D&D 5e adventure [The Lost Tomb of Xenophon,]( and found it to be best used as a quick pick-up game for an unprepared GM. Tim Bannock took a look at [Rolled & Told #7 (March 2019),]( noting that this installment of the D&D 5e comic/magazine had some great adventure material, a few inspiring tidbits, and some non-gaming material that's still worth a read. Antonios S reviewed a box full of board gaming products: - [Cerebria: The Inside World]( is an objective-driven area-control game with gorgeous art and polished but difficult mechanics. - The [Forces of Balance]( expansion for the game adds a new faction and the opportunity for additional players. - The [Invaders from Afar]( expansion for the popular 4x wargame Scythe adds two new factions and improves the game's replayability. - Another expansion for the game, [Encounters,]( add new Encounter types to the base game but in an unbalanced fashion. - [Founders of Gloomhaven]( is an an auction, hand-management, and tile-laying boardgame with interesting (if convoluted) mechanics and top-notch production falues. And, the week ended, as it usually does, on some OSR reviews from Endzeitgeist: - [The Chaos Gods Come to Meatlandia]( is a campaign setting/toolkit with a strong theme but weak mechanical presentation. The [Vivimancer Edition]( fixes some of the mechanical issues, but still has problems on that front. - [Wormskin #5]( is easily the most occult and foreboding of the installments so far. - [Roadside Respite]( is a module with heart, soul, and a number of serious glitches in editing and presentation. - And, [Advanced Adventures #21: The Obsidian Sands of Syncrates]( is a tournament module oozing with science-fantasy/planar awesomeness. Threads You Might Have Missed Savage Worlds and Cortex+ - two great tastes that taste great together? [Cortex Distinctions in Savage Worlds.]( Need some inspiration for your historical or modern weird fiction game? How about some [Supernatural-sounding historical events?]( Notionally a thread about a World of Ice and Fire (with no recent TV show spoilers); actually a thread about feudal economics that may help with inspiration for your historic or fantasy game. [Finances of the Iron Throne.]( Sign Off Have a good week, everyone. - Iustum Newsletter Editor [Unsubscribe from mailing list]( [Visit RPGnet Forums](
