With the World Series not starting until Tuesday, we weren't expecting to get much baseball news on Sunday. We didn't get a ton, but we did have a pair of managerial hirings, including a familiar face heading to what has to be one of the most desirable jobs on the market. The Angels announced on Sunday that [Brad Ausmus]( will replace [Mike Scioscia]( as their manager for the 2019 season, with a press conference for Ausmus coming Monday. Ausmus, you likely remember, was last seen in a big-league uniform as the manager of the Tigers from 2014-to-2017. He led the Tigers to the postseason with a 90-72 record after taking over for [Jim Leyland]( in his first season, but Detroit was swept, and didn't make another trip to the playoffs. His last season with the club was a borderline disaster; going 64-98 and finishing in last place in the AL Central for the second time in three years. It's also worth mentioning that Ausmus has a reputation of not being an analytical darling during his time with the Tigers. He'll be replacing Scioscia, who was well-known for being late to embrace some of the advanced stats/shifts in his time with the Angels -- and in some cases he never did. It was reported by Jon Heyman that the Angels had a lengthy questionnaire that asked several questions that involved sabermetrics, so some might be surprised to see a manager like this picked. He did spend the 2018 season working as an assistant GM to Los Angeles GM Billy Eppler in 2018, however, and there's certainly a chance that he's picked up new ideas -- or is more willing to implement them -- since his time with Detroit ended. "Ultimately, Brad's balance of connectivity, communication and leadership skills as well as his understanding of evolving strategies and probabilistic approach to decision-making led us to him," Eppler said in a released statement. "We believe his knowledge, drive and growth-mindset will allow him to integrate seamlessly with our players and staff and will be pivotal in advancing our culture and moving us toward our goals as an organization." If Ausmus has, indeed, learned from his mistakes in Detroit and the Angels can stay healthy, there's a chance that we'll be seeing the 49-year-old managing in the postseason in 2019. Reds tab Bell to lead in 2019 The Angels chose to go with a retread to lead their club. The Reds are going to be going with a manager that doesn't have any MLB experience, but has been involved in the game for a long time. The Reds hired [David Bell]( to be their new manager on Sunday, and like Ausmus, he'll be announced at a press conference on Monday. Bell will replace [Bryan Price](, who was fired in season, and Jim Riggleman, who was not retained after serving as interim manager for the majority of the 2018 season. While Bell has never managed at the big-league level, he has plenty of experience on and off the baseball diamond. He played 12 seasons in the majors from 1995-2006 for six different clubs, and was the starting third baseman for the Mariners in their 116-win season in 2001. After retiring, he managed in the Reds' system for four years, and he's also served as a bench coach for the Cardinals and third base coach for the Cubs. HE spent 2017 as Vice President of Player Development for the Giants. It's also worth mentioning that he is the son of former MLB manager Buddy Bell, so this will be the fifth father-son manager duo in MLB history. Expectations for the Reds should be low. They're playing in one of -- if not the -- toughest divisions in baseball, and they're very much in the middle of a rebuild. At just 46-years-old, Bell should be given a relatively long leash, and the hope for Cincinnati is that he'll be the man in charge when the Reds are ready to compete in a couple of years. Quick Hits: Red Sox RHP [Steven Wright]( (knee) threw a simulated game on Sunday without any issues. How his knee responds to Sunday's session will determine Wright's availability for the World Series. The knuckleballer has been on the shelf since complaining of knee pain after Game 1 of the ALDS ... John Tomase of WEEI.com reports that the stomach issue that caused LHP [Chris Sale]( to miss his start in Game 5 of the ALCS was not due to a problem with his belly button ring. It appears Sale was just having some fun with the media ... According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, the Indians are strongly considering entering the 2019 season with [Yandy Diaz]( as their starting third baseman ... According to Jon Heyman of Fancred Sprots, [Joe Girardi]( is believed to be waiting for a managerial opening with either the Cubs or White Sox. Girardi was considered one of the favorites for the Cincinnati managerial position, but he pulled out of consideration for that job on Friday ...
