[Check out Rotoworld.com Season Pass]( To read this article on Rotoworld.com [click here]( [Player News]( | [Columns]( | [Injuries]( | [Transactions]( | [Depth Charts]( | [Scoreboard]( | [Tickets]( Daily Dose: Charlie Company - 06/27/2018 BY Dan Dobish [NBC Sports Live]( LATEST FANTASY BASEBALL HEADLINES [- Kluber goes just 1 2/3 in shortest MLB outing]( [- Matt Carpenter has 5-for-5, two-homer night]( [- Lowrie goes 4-for-4, homers in A's comeback]( [- Luis Severino brilliant again in Philly Tues.]( [- Betts rips 20th homer, reaches three times]( [- Jackie Bradley goes deep, plates four runs]( [- Shaw (wrist) not in starting lineup on Tues.]( It was busy day on the Major League Baseball diamond, and there were a handful of surprises. Favorites cashed in just nine of the 15 games on Tuesday, with home teams edging the road teams by just an 8-7 margin. Perhaps the most shocking result came from a home ‘dog picking up a win, as the St. Louis Cardinals dealt [Corey Kluber]( and the Cleveland Indians a big loss, and the two-time Cy Young Award winner had the shortest outing of his career. With this result, one other pitcher might have taken the lead in the AL Cy Young race. Let’s get started! For MLB news and fantasy advice, [find me on Twitter here!]( Tuesday's Fantasy Five [Charlie Morton]( allowed four hits and two walks while striking out 13 batters over seven scoreless innings to push his record to 10-1 while lowering his ERA to 2.54 in a victory against the Toronto Blue Jays. He has won three straight starts, but this one was particularly impressive. He entered the day with 14 walks over his past 15 2/3 innings, so control has been an issue at times. Morton had it on lockdown against the Jays, however, recording seven or more strikeouts for the sixth time in nine outings. While he has 39 walks over 95 2/3 innings over his 16 starts, he has 122 strikeouts, a 1.11 WHIP and an impressive .195 opponent batting average to state his case for the Cy Young. Of course, it’s only late June, and he needs to show staying power through the summer. Morton isn’t the only AL pitcher to take a step forward in the Cy Young race, taking advantage of the struggles of the Klubot. [Luis Severino]( scattered six hits with no walks and nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings to keep the Philadelphia Phillies bats at bay. Severino was in firm control all evening, throwing an impressive 23 first-pitch strikes to the 26 batters he faced, and he probably could have kept going despite racking up 103 pitches through his seven frames. It was an old-school dominating performance, as the 24-year-old Dominican righty rattled off his third straight victory to improve to 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA in five June outings. He also has 40 strikeouts and just five walks with two homers allowed over 33 2/3 innings in the month. Editor's Note: Fantasy Baseball season is here! [Here's the link]( [Javier Baez]( was on fire in Tuesday’s battle at Chavez Ravine, going 4-for-5 with a double, a solo home run and a grand slam, turning in five RBI with two runs scored to improve his average to .276. Baez swatted a game-changing slam off of [Edward Paredes]( in the sixth inning and the Cubbies never looked back. He started off the month of June with just three RBI through his first 18 games, but he is making up for lost time lately. Baez is 13-for-29 (.448) with five doubles, a triple and two home runs with 0 RBI over the past nine games to raise his average from .255 to .276 just since June 17. [Matt Carpenter]( went bonkers in Tuesday’s surprising interleague rout of the Indians, collecting five hits in five at-bats, including his 22nd double, two solo home runs, five runs scored and three RBI. The leadoff hitter for the Cards have eaten up Cleveland pitchers, going 8-for-9 with two doubles, two homers, three RBI and six runs scored through the first two games of a nightmare road series for Cleveland. Carpenter is enjoying the month of June, going 29-for-80 (.363) with seven doubles, eight homers and 15 RBI across the past 20 games dating back to June 5, raising his average from .215 to .259. It isn’t often that a guy twirling six scoreless innings of one-hit ball will take fifth fiddle, but that’s exactly how it shakes down for [Nathan Eovaldi](. He allowed just one hit and two walks with nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings to move to 2-3 while lowering his ERA to 6.08. The only hit Eovaldi yielded was a double to [Bryce Harper](, as he outdueled [Max Scherzer]( is an impressive 1-0 home victory to kick off the slate. The one thing Eovaldi has proven to be is an innings eater, rolling up 19 1/3 innings over the past three outings. Fantasy Game of the Night The Arizona Diamondbacks continue to rebound after an early-season swoon, and the offense is really starting to come together. While yes, they scored just five runs in Tuesday’s win at Miami, the big bats are starting to awaken after a slumber. [Paul Goldschmidt]( went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a walk to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He is 9-for-31 (.290) during the impressive stretch. [David Peralta]( joined him in the eight-game hitting streak club, but his day was a lot more beneficial to fantasy owners. He finished 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI to push his average to .284. [Jake Lamb]( also stepped up with a 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI. [John Ryan Murphy]( also stepped up his game while going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. He has hit safely in 13 of his past 22 games while driving in 15 runs. Murphy is showing that if he were thrust into a regular role that he could potentially handle the gig. [Zack Godley]( was able to roll up his ninth victory of the season, allowing two earned runs, six hits and four walks with four strikeouts in a 98-pitch effort. [Brad Boxberger]( racked up his 18th save in a perfect inning, tossing seven strikes on his 11 pitches. [Archie Bradley](, who admitted to entering a game recently with some excrement in his pants, secured his 20th save by striking out the side. [Elieser Hernandez]( gave DFS players who rolled the dice on him a decent return, allowing just two earned runs, four hits, two walks and eight strikeouts over four innings. Yes, it would be nice if he could have went a little deeper, but the strikeout total more than helped him live up to DFS salary expectations. [Starlin Castro]( went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk. He and [J.T. Riddle]( had the team’s only extra-base hits, but it wasn’t the only good offensive performance for Miami. [Derek Dietrich]( continues to tear it up, going 2-for-5 to push his hitting streak to six games. He is 13-for-24 (.542) with six runs scored, three homers and five RBI during the impressive stretch. The offense was struggling a bit with [J.T. Realmuto]( (hand) sidelined after taking a foul tip off of his wrist area in Sunday’s game. [Bryan Holaday]( will hold down the fort behind the dish until the big backstop can return. American League Quick Hits: [Mark Trumbo]( reached again to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. However, he reached double-digit homers with a solo blast against the Padres. … [Ryan Borucki]( made his major league debut with two earned runs, six hits and four walks allowed over six innings to take a loss in Houston despite a quality start. … [Alex Bregman]( went 4-for-5 with three doubles, a two-run homer, two runs scored and two RBI. The freshly shaven Bregman probably should have been in the Fantasy Five above. … [Jake Marisnick]( also had a strong day, going 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBI. While he hits for low average, he’ll occasionally show up with some pop. … [Reynaldo Lopez]( surprised with four earned runs, six hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings to quiet the Twins. … [Yolmer Sanchez]( knocked in four runs to back his pitcher. … [Matt Davidson]( took the golden sombrero, going 1-for-5. … Darren O’Day checked out of his relief appearance after apparently injuring himself covering a bunt. It comes a day after being ejected for going ballistic arguing a balk. National League Quick Hits: [Juan Soto]( picked up a single late in the team’s 1-0 loss, pushing his hitting streak to 10 games. … [Jake Arrieta]( was smoked by the Yankees, coughing up six runs – three earned – and nine hits over just five innings to slip to 5-6. After a big start, the ace has certainly slipped off the tracks. … [Gregory Polanco]( launched his 11th home run for the Pirates, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. He has homered in back-to-back games for the first time this season. … [Michael Conforto]( has reached double-digit homers with his 10th of the season, and he finished 1-for-3 with a pair of runs and two walks. … The Mets discarded [Matt Harvey](, but he has landed on his feet in Cincinnati. It wasn’t his best outing, but it was good enough for a win, helped by Baez’s offensive exploits. … [Ian Desmond](’s average continues to be low, but he is making slow progress. He went 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBI. He now has 16 bombs this season to make fantasy owners feel a little better about his poor average. … [Brandon Crawford]( was a perfect 3-for-3 with a run, a walk and a stolen base.
