In this lecture, our expert historian will discuss the prevailing medical wisdom of the age and the fact that Meriwether Lewis and William Clark did not take a doctor along on the expedition. We will also learn of Lewis’s rapid decline following the expedition, which was likely due to manic depression, exacerbated by alcoholism and drug abuse.
