[Family Feud Over Land Escalates into Violent Assault in Cumilla, Victims Hospitalized After Cousins Attack] [Family Feud Over Land Escalates into Violent Assault in Cumilla, Victims Hospitalized After Cousins Attack]( High-Profile NCP Leader Baba Siddique Assassinated Amid Dussehra Festivities in Mumbai; Political Turmoil Intensifies Mumbai, India - The murder of Baba Siddique, a prominent politician and three-time MLA from Bandra East, has stirred major concerns about the state of law and order in Maharashtra. Siddique, 66, was fatally shot last night near his son Zeeshan's office in the Bandra area of Mumbai, amid Dussehra festivities. Security sources reported that at least six bullets were fired, four of which fatally struck Siddique in the chest. Siddique, previously affiliated with the Congress party, was a member of the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) at the time of his death. The incident occurred despite him being under 'Y' category protective security, leading to suspicions of a contract killing. Following the incident, law enforcement swiftly responded, and two suspects were arrested early today. These individuals have alleged connections to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a notorious criminal group, although the gang has not officially claimed responsibility for the murder. Sharad Pawar, President of the NCP, expressed his dismay at the state's "collapsed law and order situation," emphasizing that the incident could be a dire warning for the common citizens of Maharashtra. In a post on social media platform X, he urged the Home Minister and those in power to take serious measures rather than continue to "push the cart of the state so mildly." Taking swift action, the police arrested two men involved in the assassination: 23-year-old Gurmail Baljit Singh from Haryana and 19-year-old Dharamraj Rajesh Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh. The third assailant, known as Shiva or Shiv Kumar Gautam, is still at large, last seen in the Panvel area, according to the Crime Branch which is monitoring CCTV footage from key points around the city. Political reaction to the murder has been intense. Nana Patole, President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, denounced the lack of police influence and questioned whether the government was abetting criminals. Additionally, members from various political factions visited Siddique's residence to pay their respects, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. The two arrested suspects were presented in Esplanade Court, Mumbai, also known as Killa Court, with further investigations pending. As details of the assassination unfold, questions regarding the effectiveness of Siddique's security detail and prior intelligence have surfaced. The former Minister had allegedly received threats prior to the attack and despite this, the assailants were able to execute their plan, escalating concern over the gang influence in Mumbai particularly after troubling events earlier this year involving underworld activities linked to Bollywood. The killing has had a profound effect on Siddique's native village in Bihar's Gopalganj district, where villagers are mourning the loss of a leader who had deep roots in the community. His father, Abdul Rahim Siddique, moved to Mumbai five decades ago and was known in the area for his entrepreneurial spirit. As the state mourns the loss of a prominent leader, the spotlight is on the Maharashtra government and police force to ensure justice prevails and to curb the rising wave of gang-related violence. Meanwhile, security measures have been heightened throughout Mumbai, especially in sensitive areas, to avoid further incidents as the city navigates through this turbulent period.
