The group, operating from New Hampshire to Virginia, manipulated their victims through deceit and violence, exploiting the perils of fentanyl as their tool of incapacitation. U.S. Attorney Gerard Karam identified the gang as the "fentanyl robbery gang," revealing a calculated strategy where gang members or their partners would pose as potential dates only to ambush and rob their targets. According to Karam, their modus operandi involved offering victims drugs, ostensibly cocaine, which unbeknownst to the victims, contained fentanyl, greatly increasing their vulnerability to theft and violence. Victims who did not willingly consume the drugs often faced more severe coercion. Members were known to forcibly administer the drugs or subtly introduce them to their victim's body, ensuring compliance through incapacitation. In circumstances where this tactic failed, or if the drug-induced debilitation was insufficient, the criminals often escalated their methods to home invasion robberies. During these violent encounters, residences were breached by several gang members, underpinned by threats or outright violence. These intrusions often resulted in the theft of cash, firearms, personal identification, electronic devices, and credit facilities of the victims. The ring's activities have been traced to multiple tragic outcomes, including three homicides in Pennsylvania, across Berks and Luzerne counties, and a further fatality in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Prosecutors believe there are additional, yet unidentified victims. Law enforcement authorities have already made significant inroads against this criminal outfit, succeeding in indicting seven individuals on a myriad of charges, encompassing kidnapping, aggravated identity theft, drug distribution conspiracies, and the deliberate distribution of fentanyl leading to death and serious injuries. Notably, several of the indicted maintain alleged affiliations with established gangs based out of New York City. The investigation that brought these charges to light was a collaborative effort spanning numerous agencies.
