It's always something when even CNN can't defend Hillary Clinton's talking points. Case in point: CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig recently took issue with Clinton's claim that there's "nothing out of the ordinary" in how the legal system is treating former President Donald Trump. Now, this is coming from a network that isn't exactly known for cutting Trump any slack, but even Honig had to call out the absurdity of Clinton's take. In a piece for New York Magazine, Honig absolutely torched Special Counsel Jack Smith's legal strategy against Trump. He called it "procedurally irregular" and pointed out that Smith is willing to bend any rule in order to keep chipping away at Trump's electoral prospects. He even likened Smith's tactics to the controversial moves by James Comey during the Hillary Clinton email investigation in 2016, suggesting that both situations reek of political maneuvering. And he's right-if you were outraged back then, you should be equally bothered now. But Clinton's not having it, arguing that these cases are somehow "completely different." Convenient, isn't it? During an interview, Clinton claimed that Smith's approach is justified because it's part of an "ongoing criminal procedure" against Trump that started long before the election. According to her, it's all by the book and has even been guided by a supposedly Trump-friendly judge. Really, Hillary? Because as Honig pointed out, she's confusing her judges. She's mixing up Judge Aileen Cannon, who has been more favorable to Trump, with Judge Tanya Chutkan, who has mostly ruled against him. For someone who prides herself on being a legal expert (at least when it suits her), this is a pretty basic mix-up. And Honig didn't stop there. He went on to argue that what's happening with Smith's case against Trump is far from routine. "The way they flipped this procedure is the opposite of the ordinary," he said, pointing out that Smith's team decided to file their motions in a way that almost no federal prosecutors do. Honig, who knows a thing or two about the justice system, even questioned why there was such a rush to push things through with this "procedurally irregular approach." Sounds like Smith had an agenda, and it wasn't about upholding the integrity of the process. Clinton might think she can dismiss these concerns as minor details, but when even CNN's legal analysts aren't buying what she's selling, that says something. Honig is basically giving her a reality check, pointing out that this isn't some standard legal affair-it's a fast-tracked, rule-bending, politically charged mess. And yet, here's [Clinton]( insisting everything is on the up and up, as if this isn't just another chapter in the saga of using the legal system as a political weapon. Let's not forget that this is the same Hillary Clinton who was up in arms when Comey reopened her email investigation days before the 2016 election, claiming it cost her the presidency. But now, when a special counsel is playing games with the procedure to go after Trump, suddenly it's all just "business as usual." The double standard is astounding. When it's her on the receiving end of DOJ antics, it's a grave injustice. When it's Trump, well, he must have had it coming, right? This whole debacle underscores just how politicized these investigations have become, and it's not doing the justice system any favors. Jack Smith's eagerness to bend the rules and rush the process does little to inspire confidence that this is anything other than a politically motivated hit job. Honig, to his credit, is at least willing to point out that this isn't how things are supposed to be done, even if it means pushing back against the narrative being spun by people like Clinton. But leave it to Hillary to argue that the rules don't apply the same way when it's her political rival in the hot seat. And sure, CNN may have taken a rare break from its usual programming to let Honig tell some inconvenient truths, but don't hold your breath for a widespread media reckoning over this. The talking points have already been set: Trump is the villain, and whatever means are necessary to get him are justifiable-even if it means turning legal procedures on their head. Watch the latest video at [foxnews.com]( Clinton's defense of Jack Smith's antics rings hollow. It's just another attempt to justify bending the rules in the name of going after Trump. But Honig's critique makes one thing clear: this isn't about justice. It's about politics-plain and simple. And when even CNN can't ignore the double standards at play, you know it's bad.
